Expert-Level Troubleshooting Services
I called Sam Electrical Services (SES) to troubleshoot a partial power outage in my home - my master bathroom lights and ceiling fan would not turn on and I had already tried re-setting the electrical panel and the GFCI. Sam was free and arrived in 20-30 minutes from the time our phone call ended and I sent him the text with my address. He is top-notch and here are the reasons why:
1) He was calculated and methodical in his process of elimination to find the root of the issue. He didn't just start testing one item and then another. Instead, he was able from his expertise to narrow it down to a few potential items, started from the item that would give him the most information on how to narrow down the other items if this one wasn't the root cause itself, and went from there. One by one, he was seeing cause-and-effect very, very quickly.
2) He was honest. Rather than pretend like it's a difficult issue and take over an hour to charge more, he figured it out in 20 minutes, and then it took another 20-30 minutes to do the repairs, tidy up, complete the payment, and head out.
3) He was mindful of your property. He took his shoes off when he arrived instead of walking in your home with shoes. He moved items out of the way that could get debris on them from him unscrewing or removing electrical covers or light fixtures.
4) He was respectful. As a woman living on her own, you always feel a sense of anxiety when a stranger male enters your home. Some technicians I've had in my home have asked some uncomfortable questions, made uncomfortable remarks, or looked at me in a less-than-innocent ways. Not Sam. He spoke to you with dignity and respect. I felt safe with him within moments of him entering my home and it stayed that way the entire time he was here.
5) He was personable. He was warm, friendly, and easy to talk to, which is a bonus for those who like to stick around and watch what the technician is doing when they are working in your home.
6) He has reasonable prices. I called one company that had a $225 call-out fee! His was along the lines of other companies I called. His hourly rate was reasonable and within industry norms as well.
7) He was an electrical engineer before moving to Canada. That gives him a huge leg up in troubleshooting calls - which are by far the calls that require the most expertise in understanding cause and effect and electrical systems. He shared how an individual in the city had an electrician spend 7 hours to try to find the cause of their electrical issue and couldn't, charged $500 for the fix, and said he had to return the next day to solve it, after he had put holes into the home's walls to try to find the issue. Sam showed up and found and solved the issue in 1 hour without needing to dig into walls. I saw that same expertise here with how methodical, calculated, and quickly he found my issue, and his engineering ethics at play in not playing dumb to make more money.
8) He explained things to you as he worked. He told you what he was doing and why. He explained his deductions as he went through is process of elimination. He showed you how he ruled something was good or the root cause. He showed you the root cause once found and how he would fix it.
Hands down, he is going to be my go-to electrician going forward and I would recommend him to anyone, especially those needing to troubleshoot. He has found a loyal customer.
