patio block and retaining wall

Greg came in and I had to show him and his crew how I wanted the top caps cut. They never did cut them the proper way unless I was outside babysitting. The retaining walls have 1/2" gaps in several places. The patio does not drain water properly due to several low spots. I would not recommend them to anyone. Please note, these pictures show the retaining wall 2 bricks deep. There was no need for mesh or anything else. What it lacked was a proper base, more knowledge, and a desire to do the job properly the first time.

Approximate cost of services:
$19,000.00

Company Response

It was unfortunate that the caps and patio had shifted. This was due to the fact the client did not want to pay for geo grid (engineered restraints) to hold the wall from moving. Walls over 2ft in height need geo grids to be able to hold the surcharges that are behind them. This client was offered this material at the beginning of the job and opted out. Granted the walls in the pictures are 2 brick high, but because all the walls are acting as one unit that you do not see in the picture. Even if walls are 2 brick high, but the next wall that is set back 4 ft from the 2 brick wall actually combine the wall to a total of 4ft plus the 2 brick below wall. The taller walls that are 4ft (not shown in these pictures)are pushing on the 2 brick high walls in the pictures. And the soils around the areas are moving due to the taller walls moving and pushing the soils to push on the lower walls and props. Unfortunately the walls have moved and has caused all the disappointment in the job. This Job was done in 2011 and the pics are from 2013. These pictures will show what 2 years of movement will do. We have learned as well that we will not take on projects that skip out on major materials needed to do a project correctly. Even if it saves costs even if the client says it's ok I rather save money. Never skip out on major materials like reinforcements.
