8 minute move from old house to new house

Hired the company to do our move on December 16th 2011. Workers arrived early and worked hard for the first couple hours. Slowed a bit after that. One item out of a house full of contents damaged, was eventually compensated for the item by the company.

Moving house contents 8 minutes down the street to our new home

This is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Three movers showed up bright and early, one older worker and and two younger ones. They worked pretty good for the first three hours, had almost 1/2 the house packed. From that point on, they were SLOWER than you can imagine. The youngest would often stand around and WATCH as the other two would wrap furniture, rather than carrying items to the truck. They did not pack the truck well at all, so that 10% of my items were left at the old house, which took me 30 trips with my car to finish moving.

Arrived at the new house. The youngest mover was constantly moving boxes with items on top depsite being told NOT to by the guy in charge. Eventually he grabbed a box with a 10 pound dumbbell on top which fell 6 feet to his foot, shattering his big toe. This left me with two movers working VERY slowly, and almost half the truck left to unload. Depsite my bad back ( why I hired movers in the first place ) my wife and I began unloading the truck as well, and easily did 50% or more of the work.

Head guy made out the bill at the end and then charged me for all three movers for the entire day, depsite the fact that we only had two movers for the last 3 hours, and did 50% of that work ourself.

One of our dining room chairs was badly damaged. A leg was broken off and the leather was punctured. We paid the $20 up front fee so there would be NO deductible to pay in case of damage. After hounding them for 4 months, they finally picked up the chair only to bring it back a month later with what literally looked like chewed up bubble gum of a different color than the leather, stuck over the rip in the chair. It looked terrible, so I sent it back with him. We are now 7 months after the move and they will not return my phone calls.

I am currently taking them to small claims court to sue them for my dining room chair, as well as breach of contract.

My advice to anyone is simply this. Do your research, get an up front price established from another moving company. Most importantly ... DO NOT use Demenagement Maximum.
