New Fixtures in the bathroom

We just had our toilet, sink, and 2 sets of faucets replaced in our bathroom. My husband and I decided to go out and purchase our own since we wanted a certain style to match the rest of the bathroom. Greg was very professional and helpful in the decision making process and spent quite a bit of time offering us advice on where to purchase and what to watch out for. He probably 2 hours or so without any additional charges. He cam back a week later and installed all of our fixtures and was very careful when working in our house using drop cloths and shoe covers. I have to say that he was very nice and pleasant to have in our home. The whole experience was just great.

Leaking faucet

I was told when I called Priority that I wouldn't be charged for the visit if my problem couldn't be fixed. The issue was a tub leak and the piping was behind tile with the vent to the side. I could reach the faucet by snaking my hand through the hole, but with no plumbing expertise, I couldn't deal with the problem myself but figured a trained plumber could. The plumber who arrived was polite and informed me that he couldn't fix the problem without breaking the tile. O.k., so how much to break the tile? He pulls out the book of big numbers and points to the cost - I could have dropped dead on the spot. Over $600 before taxes to break the tile (and not even cutting a neat even hole - he advised I would have to hire someone else if I wanted that). I didn't go ahead with the work and was charged $50 for the pleasure. I guess technically, he may have been able to do the work, but I would have had to pay more than $600 to find that out.

I notice from Priority's responses to the reviews that the focus seems to be on the fact that they do a good job and their plumbers are not criminals. Which kind of implies that the plumbing business is rife with murderers doing terrible jobs. Give me a break. The crime is the prices being charged by Priority. I am writing this review today because I decided to try opening up the tile myself. Guess what? It took me 10 minutes max with a chipping hammer (and I am a mom with zero experience at this).

Priority called today asking if they could come back and fix the leak. If they charge over $600 for 10 minutes of work a monkey could do, I shudder to think of what would be charged for the actual skilled part of the work.

If we can't fix the leak ourselves, I have no doubt that I will be able to find a plumber without a criminal record who will do a great job and not rob me blind (I'll get a referral this time).

Unfortunately if you wanted our Plumber to stand in your home and do nothing at all, the price would be the same. We can not charge one price for what you consider skilled and another for what you don't consider skilled.

We just got off the phone and I am surprised that you would write a negative review, when the nature of my call was to see how you were doing with your situation. You told me that you took a hammer and broke a hole, and you are lucky that the tile came off without causing damage to the rest of the tiles.

Our Plumber would use a grinder which requires us to clear out the room and seal off the door to prevent the dust from escaping the bathroom. The we clean up the work area as clean or cleaner than we found it. You also told me on the phone that you are not sure if you could fix the wall the way you broke it.

I think that it is also important to stress that we came out the same day when you needed service that day, we wore shoe covers, we respected you and your home, the plumber was very knowledgeable and able to solve the most complex of issues without any stress or inconvenience to the home owner, arrived in a fully stocked vehicle and yes, is criminally background checked and drug tested.

Did you hear about the service technician who recently robbed a home in Oakville? I'm not saying that all plumbers are criminals, but let's face it, you are letting a stranger into your home.

I highly doubt that you will find a Plumber that meets all of these criteria for the same price. We have just won our 2nd Award for "Best Plumbing Company" you can look for us in this week's edition of the Villager which serves your area.

Clog

First thing the guy do is pull the rate list with regular price and compares it with value price which comes with 1 year membership. To replace the bathtub faucet, I was quoted $1200. To open and close toilet $399 which is practically opening two screws which he did in couple of minutes.

I understand the fact they are "licensed" "bonded" and do background check. But that doesnt mean they have license to charge arm and leg and it is all sales pitch. I would recommend people to do their own homework and get quotes from couple of different places. I firmly believe that ratings on his website are fake. Torontonians deserve better at affordable price.

Hello highway 52 in Toronto,

Our Service Partner Plan is one of the biggest reasons Torontonians choose to do business with Priority Plumbing. It offers a discount on services, front of the line privileges, same day service and free annual plumbing maintenance to prevent emergencies from occuring in the first place.

I am sorry you don't value having criminally background checked, drug tested, Licensed and Insured technicians in your home, but for our thousands and thousands of very satisfied customers, they do.

If you notice a trend of all of the bad reviews on homestars, you will see that it is always about price and never about quality of work or service.

Perhaps you can find a cheaper price, but be careful that you don't end up on Holmes on Holmes with another disaster story. I believe that you get what you pay for.

When dealing with water and plumbing in your home, you don't want to trust it to just anybody. We charge what we charge to keep the Best Plumbers employed for us and to efficiently offer the fastest most reliable service in Toronto.

Since we always offer the price before we start we're sorry you felt victimized.
Best,

Moving some plumbing for a renovation

I am renovating my bathroom and needed to move some plumbing pipes to accomidate the new design. Mike came by and discussed whether or not my plans were do-able plumbing wise. After a quick look in the basement he determined that my goals were achievable. He went to his truck and worked out a price down to the penny which which seemed reasonable. The next day he came and did the work. It took him most of the day, he put down drop cloths, wore shoe covers, was very polite and courteous. The jobsite was left very clean and all of the garbage was taken away. Over all I am very Happy, there were no surprises or glitches. My home was respected and the over all experience was painless for a renovation. I would gladly refer Priority Plumbing and would use them again.

Nothing
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
I would recomend priority Plumbing for their renovation project. They only do the plumbing not the drywall or painting.

Leaking Pipes

I had a leak coming up from my basement floor. I was told it was a broken drain pipe from a reputable company. After speaking with a friend who had used Priority before, I decided to get another quote. As it turns out, the problem was a burst water line and there was no drain in the area at all.

They fixed the problem in one day, repaired the floor and left the work are very clean. They were courteous and professional. They wore shoe covers and layed down drop sheets.

I would recommend Priority Plumbing as I am quite happy with their service.

Plugged Drain

I called Priority Plumbing late one night because I had raw sewage backing up into my basement. (Gross). Priority Plumbing was the 2nd company I called after the first company didn't answer their phone. So much for 24 hour service.

Greg arrived less than an hour later. He was intelligent, polite and eager to help. I didn't get the feeling like he was trying to take advantage of me or my situation like I had somewhat expected. I guess you hear horror stories and hope for the best.

He had all the gadgets and locators to identify my problem underground quickly and accurately. I've been to doctors who were less competent. I've also had other service guys in my home and know outstanding service when i see it.

We ended up replacing a small section of drain pipe after he showed me for my own eyes with the camera and explained everything in great detail. He could have told me to replace the whole drain but he was honest and told me that I could wait a few more years.

The price was not unreasonable at all. I was happy to get my problem fixed quickly and professionally. I really have to comment on the technician though. Greg was a true gentleman, a professional and just a quality human being, rare in any profession.

If you want great service, great people, honesty and peace of mind, call Priority Plumbing. I would gladly recommend this company to everyone. Great Job!

New Faucet Installed

I called priority plumbing because my bathroom faucet was leaking and old. Jennifer was very proffesional while booking the call which was a huge difference from the company I called a few minutes earlier who put me on hold for 15 minutes and then got upset with me when I asked if they could narrow down the arival time.

Steven came by and WOW, what a suprise. He was extremely courteous and rolled out the red carpet so he wouldn't dirty my house. He wore shoe covers and was VERY professional. He was very knowledgable about the products and took the time to ask me questions about what I wanted before reccomending a replacement model.

What a refreshing experience to have a contractor come to my home and provide that level of service. I've had terrible experiences in the past with others who damaged my property, were unknowledgable and inconsiderate. Ya I could have gotten a cheaper price if I shopped around but who knows who would have showed up, how they would have treated my home, and what type of job they would have done?

As for me, I'm sticking with Priority Plumbing and would highly reccomend them to anyone and everyone. Good Work Guys.

replacement of main water valve

I had virtually no water pressure and couldn't figure out what the problem was. I found Priority Plumbing's website and decided to give them a try. They sent Mike, who was exceptionally prompt and VERY polite and considerate. He went through the house and identified an aging main water valve as the likely problem. I had to schedule a time for the city to shut off the water a couple of days later, when I could be at home. Jennifer, in the PP office, called to make sure I remembered to call the city at 7:30 am; Mike came within 45 minutes after I called PP to let them know the city technician had shut the water off. It later turned out that there may have been a simpler explanation for the lack of water pressure (some mystery valves to the water lines, which Mike discovered deep in a basement closet), but my intuition is that the main valve was the root problem. The job wasn't cheap, but the water pressure is terrific now and I have great confidence in the company and esp. in Mike and Jennifer. Terrific job!

plumbing leak

I just wanted to follow-up on a review I submitted on Saturday, May 2. As I had mentioned I had a small leak coming from my second floor bathroom into the room below. I removed all the drywall from in front of where I thought the leak was located and found the leak. It was therefore easy for the plumber to get at the pipes since I had removed all the drywal. I called Priority Plumbing for emergency service. They charged me $160 for the service call. Their plumber, Kevin, came over and had a look and then indicated it would cost over $700 to fix. It truly was highway robbery and, quite frankly, I would rather have paid that amount for brain surgery because that it what I would have needed if I decided to use them to fix the leak. Kevin indicated that this was a standard cost that any plumber would charge. I ended up hiring another local company and they fixed the problem for $350.

Had Priority Plumbing treated me fairly, I would have used them but they betrayed my trust and took advantage of my situation. They will likely do the same to other consumers so please avoid this company at all costs.

Hi David,

I know that since you have read this review we have spoken on the phone and come to some sort of an agreement that not all company's offer the same service with regards to warranty's, craftsmanship, reliability, and trustworthiness.

In our conversation you would not tell me who you hired to do the work, so I can not comment on whether or not they offer a true 24 hour service, if you got lucky to find someone that evening, whether you will be able to reach them again in the future if there is a problem with the work, If they will answer the phone or you will have to leave a message which means you will have to call someone else anyways, how long it will take them to respond to a warranty call should they answer the phone, whether they are criminally back round checked and drug tested so you know you can trust your family to allow a stranger in the home while you are at work.

For a waterpipe to have leaked, it wasn't installed properly in the first place plain and simple. I'm not sure if you had hired the original plumber or purchased your home after the fact. That is really irrelavent, I am simply stating a fact about proper installation.

Our technician who's name is Steven, quoted you to replace a larger section of pipe other than the part that was just leaking now, because it was in poor condition and could leak again in the near future causing repeated damage to your wall and further inconvenience to you. The quote was not for $800, it was in the $500 range and again, was for a bigger section of pipe. The $159 was for an emergency service call which we only charge after 5PM and you were explained this over the phone prior to us dispatching our technician.

Other "reputable" companies charge $200 and up for emergency service calls.

We do not charge tax we collect it. So when you total the repair for more than just a leak, the emergency call out and the tax, it comes to somewhere in the $750 range which you rounded up to $800 in your report.

If you called us during regular business hours, it would have been around $500 for more than a spot repair.

Steven told me that you had tried to negotiate the price with him to do it for $350, which I can only assume you did the same with who ever you called after the fact. We do not negotiate with our customers on our price because it is not ethical that one person pays one price and another person pays less just because they live in a certain area or are a good negotiator.

We also agreed that if your situation was a complicated one, maybe the plumber who did the job cheaper would not have been equipped to solve it and that providing superior service is providing superior value and worthy of a little bit more.

Unblock a plugged toilet

Priority Plumbing was dispatched to my condo at 9 pm to fix a plugged toilet. The call was $159 flat. Upon arrival, the Priority Plumbing technician quoted a staggering $843 to fix the problem using a snake. I had no choice but to proceed as my neighbour below was complaining that water was dripping into his unit, and I was 1,400 miles away and unable to assess the situation myself. Within 90 minutes the problem was fixed, and Priority Plumbing banked a grand.

A grand to fix a toilet in an emergency. A poll of my friends ("how much would you expect to pay for...") revealed that almost everyone viewed this amount as excessive.

A follow-up call with Priority Plumbing to complain about the price proved fruitless. They claim that their up-front quote is what it is, and that I agreed to it (which is true, but the circumstances were such that I had no option).

Lesson: keep a list of reasonably priced emergency service people on hand, so as to avoid outlandishly expensive charges levied under duress (such as this one from Priority Plumbing).

Company Response

We are sorry that you do not see the value of having a licensed, insured, competent, drug free, criminal record free, fully trained, quality and accountable individual in your home, especially when you are 1400 miles away. I know that I would be quite concerned about letting just any stranger in my home with my family.
Some people would consider having their problem fixed in 90 minutes or less to be excellent service.

However, I am not surprised by your surprise about the price. I too am amazed at the costs involved in running a fully licensed and professional service company. We have to pay for things like:
Licensing, Insurance, Office equipment, Telephone, Fax, Benefits, Truck Maintenance, Test Equipment, Gasoline, Truck Inventory, Training, Utilities, Office Leasing, Quality Control, Service Management, Administration, Postage, Technician Salaries, Office Help, Tools, Taxes, Workers Compensation, Office Supplies, Office Equipment and Computerization.

Now come’s profit. A 10% net profit on the selling price, although seldom realized would be ideal. So if we were efficient enough to earn 10% on a $200 repair, we would earn 20 taxable dollars. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is not excessive for providing top quality services on your premises.

We try every thing in our power to keep our costs low, to keep our prices as low as possible to prevent this type of customer dis satisfaction. This is why we never ever start any job without you knowing exactly what it will cost first and you have to authorize it. Our up front pricing manual ensures that we are not just looking at you, trying to figure out how much money you have or that you need to be a good negotiator to get a fair price. Everybody pays the same.

And as far as keeping a list of emergency contractors more reasonable than us, I don't believe that there is another company out there charging less than us who would even answer the phone at night, and if they did they surely wouldn't have the accountability or quality of service that you received by us.

I think it is a bit unfair to slander us when you knew the price before we started. We can't control when you call or where you are when you need us.

We do not charge more for our services no matter what time you call.

Again I'm not sure of the type of service you are used to, expect or have required in the past, but I believe that it is unfair to complain when we did everything possible to be as transparent as possible before we started the work.

I can't do anything about the costs of running a business in downtown toronto, all I can control is the quality of service we provide. I don't think you can complain about that. This is what has won us the Top Choice award for Best Plumbing Company in Toronto 3 years in a row.
