Bathtub faucet

I bought an antique reproduction bathtub faucet from these guys when they were at the original location on the corner of my street. Worked fine for several years, then began to leak. Knowing nothing about faucets, I took it back to them to see if they could repair it. The fellow scowled and said, no, with faucets of this sort it's a "whole reconditioning job" and it would have to be disassembled and rebuilt or some such. Made it sound like a huge deal. Said he didn't have time to do it, but as luck would have it, he could sell me a recently reconditioned faucet of the same make and model, with minor wear for the excellent price of exactly what I'd paid for the first one new, $250 plus tax. I didn't know any better so I bought it. He said I may as well leave the old one, but I declined.
Well, yesterday it started to leak again. I know a little more than I did back then, so I went to Home Depot, bought a bevelled washer for a dime, unscrewed the various parts of the faucet and fixed it in about 15 minutes.
It's experiences like this that have made me a distrustful, bitter, and somewhat handy middle aged man.
The fellow that lead me down the garden path was not the owner, and this was some years ago. Hopefully he doesn't work there anymore.

home renovation including addition of 1.5 bathrooms

I have used Addison as my plumber for many years, mainly for small repair work . I have always found them to be excellent. When my husband and I planned a total renovation of our 100 year old home we called Addison. The work involved adding two stacks and replacing the existing stack, plus replacing the pipe to the main drain. There were issues installing fixtures (3 toilets, 3 vanities, a shower, a soaker tub, kitchen sink, and dishwasher). At every challenge Addison came through. Tony & Craig are complete professionals and they worked well with my contractor. We will continue to use them for our future plumbing needs.

kitchen sink replacement

Good service, but unreliable quote: I was given a price range over the phone and ended paying more.

I had a quote from my condo building to replace the laundry safety valve and to replace my kitchen faucet for $300 (I'd bought the replacement faucet). I called Addison plumbing to get a comparison quote and the person I talked to said he couldn't give me an exact quote but it would be in the $195 to $225 range. But when the plumber came, he said $195 to replace the kitchen faucet and another $135 for the laundry valve! I ended up just doing the faucet for 195+tax=220. He was a nice fellow and did a good job replacing the faucet, but I'm not too happy about the price.

Replacing hot water tank mixing valve

After some frustration with other plumbers either not arriving as scheduled, or quoting 2-3 times the price, I found JS Addison Plumbing and called them about a quote to replace my hot water tank mixing valve. Tony called me back promptly and gave me a quote along with some very honest advice on the best way to go about the repair.

I was able to schedule an appointment easily and he arrived on time. The job was completed quickly and professionally. I will definitely be keeping them in mind for my next plumbing job!

I had a new kitchen countertop installed and their recommended plumber was very expensive. I called J.S.Addison who were very reasonable.
They were very prompt and I'm pleased with the job they did.

plumbing

Because I have an older house I've have used Addison's a few times. I've found them to fast, clean and professional. They explained exactly my options regarding the repairs and the varying costs. When I wanted to replace a set of leaking taps they informed me the taps were fine and only required a less expensive repair. I would definitely use them again.

running toilet, sink odor

I called to deal with a sink odor which turned out to be due to buildup in runoff drain. They cleaned it out; after they left, the sink itself didn't drain. My other plumber came by later, opened the trap and removed lots of black debris, which had been scraped out by Addison's but left in the drain trap. With our 2 running toilets, the ballcock was replaced in each. As the Addison plumber left, I was told that one of the toilets may require a $175 call-back (to remove the tank and further fix the problem) if their repair was insufficient. I called my other plumber, who in 5 minutes replaced a worn $2 seal, which did NOT require removing the tank. Also, while the Addison plumber was unaware I could overhear his phone conversation with the boss, I overhead him say, "Don't worry, she'll pay later one way or the other -- we'll be back in 4 days -- $175, or $455 if she decides to replace the entire toilet". They were, needless to say, not invited back, and never will be.
