I am shocked that New Century Maids rates so highly on Homestars. I had my information taken and said I would pay by e-transfer and was told that when they found a convenient time for them, they would call me with a day's notice. So I waited until they called and gave me a half hour time window. On the day, after waiting an hour, I called and then they called the cleaners. Apparently one of the cleaners was sick and couldn't come. Understandable, but I still wasn't given an explanation as to why the other cleaner didn't show up and I didn't receive a call to let me know. She then took another hour after that to arrive. No explanation. She set down to work and the reason why I've given them one star is because she was incredibly efficient. I've never seen a job done faster. However, she left a lot of stuff behind. Dust bunnies, puddles on the laminate, dirt in the tub. The stainless steel cleaner she used stank so bad and gave me a headache for 2 days afterwards. Also, she emptied the dirty bucket water outside of my door instead of in the toilet. Needless to say, I was not impressed. When I asked how I should pay, I was told "I don't know" and then she took off. I waited for an invoice for 2 weeks, then double checked my credit card and saw that they had charged me for the job including a $4 fee for using my credit card (a fee I wouldn't have had to pay if I had paid by e-transfer). When I called to clear up the confusion, I was told that they emailed me an invoice. When I told them I didn't receive it, they just insisted that it's not their problem because they emailed it to me and it didn't bounce back. When I asked her to read out the email address, it became clear that they misspelled my first name and sent the invoice to someone else. Then they had the nerve to insist that I gave them the wrong email address. Why would I give them an accurate credit card and an incorrect email address? For what possible nefarious purpose would that serve? The administration staff was rude and when I was passed to the manager (abruptly and without warning), she was even worse. She just kept talking over me insisting that their policy is to contact me by phone and email after the job was completed. Except that they didn't. I didn't receive a call or an email and none of that was my fault. They even went so far as to say that they received a reply from the incorrect email address, so it was clearly my address. When I then brought up my privacy concerns about divulging my personal information to a stranger, they rethought their position. And during this entire process, I wasn't even looking for a refund! I was just bringing up the fact that I hadn't received an invoice and needed a copy. I had a 22 minute conversation just so that I could receive a copy of my invoice that they never sent me. It is unfortunate that they made an administrative error, but their customer service skills are seriously lacking and made for a horrible experience. I will never hire New Century Maids again.

Dear Carly,
We are very sorry for this misunderstanding. The email address you have provided for us since 2012, and the same email we were getting corresponding emails back from you is the email address we sent the invoice to the same day as the cleaning. On each invoice we show our policy for payment times, before we charge the credit card that you had provided. Unfortunately after 2 weeks of no payment we do charge your credit card.
Once again we do apologize if you felt upset that we had charged your credit card, we do encourage our clients to stay on top of their invoices, after we have sent them for this reason. We hope that you change your mind about our services, we do appreciate your business & your feedback. Your input makes us a better company, and allows us to improve on all areas of our company from customer service to cleaning services.

Thank you, and enjoy your day,

New Century Maids.

I ordered all new kitchen cabinets from Home Again and went through every detail with the sales rep. I wanted to use some horizontal cabinets and the rep suggested that I just flip them on their side. Unfortunately, this didn't work because the vertical cabinets aren't designed to hold weight on the long edge. When I presented this to Home Again, I was pleased to discover that they would replace the cabinets I ordered with the correct ones. I really appreciated that they were customer service focused and willing to correct any errors. You also can't beat the price. I always think of purchasing there first for my home needs now.

Valentin was wonderful to work with. Whereas many plumbers wanted to charge $150 for an estimate, Valentin discussed it with me over the phone and even drove by briefly to give me a free estimate. This was greatly appreciated and showed me that he was not out to gouge me. His price is reasonable and I trust his workmanship and knowledge. I will definitely be calling him the next time I have a plumbing issue.

Waste to go had a great price, they delivered on time, they removed on time and they were helpful in deciding which bin to use. However, the bin was to be put on my patio. Apparently, my patio stones were laid over dirt, so when the bin was removed, my stones cracked into a million pieces. I know nothing about how much weight patio stones can take so I expect the contractor to tell me these things. I noticed that they didn't use any wood or protection that most dumpster companies use when they drop off a bin, so it was not surprising that they cracked. I needed to completely renovate my patio, which cost me thousands of dollars. I called Waste to Go and they denied any responsibility. After some conversation, they agreed to pay $70 for the damage. I accepted, but never received the refund. I called 3 or 4 times with no response. The customer service I experienced after the fact was appalling.

I love my new patio! Lu'ay was quick and professional and didn't require any supervision. I barely knew what I wanted, but he asked all the right questions and helped me make the right decisions. I can tell that he's willing to work with someone who comes with a plan or just as much with someone without. The job was done professionally and it looks professional. I chose him because his quote was honest and I could tell that he values repeat business. I think this is the first reno I've done that went off without any problems! Thanks Lu'ay.

I hired Laird and Son to remove an old 1930s boiler and replace it with a newer model. Then I hired them on again to install 3 rads and raise some boiler pipes running across the ceiling. I found Ron Potter (Sales Representative) to be informative and fair in negotiations. He got me a great price for the job and I was very pleased. I also found their installer, Artie, to do a good job and have great customer service skills. I have to say that overall I was extremely pleased with the work that Laird and Sons did. Although at first, the boiler was not done to what we had discussed, they were eager to get it done right and at no cost to me. I really appreciated Ron and Artie's fairness in the treatment of their customers. I would give Ron and Artie a 10/10, but I deducted 2 marks for my dealings with the office. I think Laird and Sons is a 8/10 because the job was done right where it counts. However, the treatment I received by Kim in Accounts Receivable was plain rude. The first time I received an invoice, the job was still being modified and was not yet complete. I explained this to Kim and she told me that the job was going to be completed and that I should leave a cheque for Artie to pick up when he left. However, I wasn't going to see the job until after Artie left, so I offered to pay the next morning until after I had seen it myself. Kim was very insistent that they had waited too long for payment and that they wanted it at that very moment. I explained that the delays had nothing to do with me and that I would be willing to make a partial payment, but I wasn't going to pay her money in advance of work completion. Nevertheless, she argued on and on with me until I told her that I would pay the very same day when I arrived home from work at 5:00 p.m. So I left a message for them to process payment the next day. Needless to say, I did not appreciate being hassled for money up front. I was willing to forget the whole incident until I had to deal with her again on the next invoice. Ron had emailed me a quote for several items and one was moving the rad in the bedroom to the living room. When I wrote him back, I wanted to go ahead with all the items except for the moving of the rad. Before the job was finished, Kim called and charged me for all the items including the moving of the bedroom rad and again wanted payment that very same day when Artie finished. I mentioned that the bedroom rad wasn't moved as part of the job. She then explained to me in no uncertain terms that the rad was moved and that I owed them the money especially considering the fact that they had worked to fix the prior mistakes on the boiler for free. Again, I found myself arguing with Kim over the issue of payment. I invited her to come to my house and see for herself the old rad still in it's place in the bedroom. I don't know why she continually chose not to believe me on this matter of fact issue and instead tried to bully me into paying for services they did not perform, but it was not appreciated. I then found the email that proves that I specifically asked Ron not to do the bedroom rad and sent it to her. I then heard back from her a week later with a revised amount that did not include the bedroom rad. No apology offered. Resolved to my satisfaction, yes, but what an ordeal. If I could offer any advice, it would be for Laird and Son to work on their inter-departmental communication. No one knew what the other person had discussed with me. Artie didn't know what Ron and I had discussed and Kim didn't know what Ron and Artie and I had discussed. It caused no end to problems. Although they have excellent customer service when it comes to fixing these problems, a little more communication could have prevented them in the first place. Also, insinuating that the customer is being untruthful, is a big mistake.

In response to Carly, We are pleased that Carly is appreciative and pleased with the completed work. There were difficulties in communication and the details of the job were changed several times (everyone knows how time consuming a renovation can be). We were working alongside other contractors whose work coincided with our installation and created difficulties in scheduling and getting our job done in the time we had allotted. We will continue to provide excellent regular maintenance and emergency service as per our contract agreement.

Trent is a rare find that I found thanks to Homestars. Let me start by saying that I am a very picky person. I notice details and I demand equal quality for the money I pay. Nowadays, it is extremely rare to find someone who puts the effort into getting a job done properly when they have the option to shortcut it and sacrifice quality. I think Trent does his job because he takes pride in his work and enjoys what he does and not because he wants to retire in Aruba. Above all, he is honest and straightforward which are the traits I value the most in a contractor. He was sometimes so honest about the job that he created more unpaid work for himself to ensure that it would get done properly. That is was sold me on Trent. Trent always tried to meet me half way on an issue and his commitment to customer service shows through all of the positive reviews written here. This being my first reno, I wasn't sure what questions to ask and what to expect, but Trent was patient with me. Although there were several instances of miscommunication, we always came to an agreeable solution. The job was to make the concrete walls and uneven floors of my basement a habitable apartment. The job required everything, not the least of which was plumbing, insulation and floors/walls/ceiling. I am extremely pleased with the quality of workmanship and the price. I would most definitely recommend Trent to everyone and plan to call him in the future.

Ensure that everyone is on the same page with constant communication. I was lax with the communication at first, then quickly realized that getting into specifics first, saves aggravation later.

Mike did a great job removing the knob and tube from my house. New outlets were put in, smoke detectors wired and pot lights put in. Mike did excellent work and was really nice about adding extras like dimmers and removing a pipe for me that was in my attic. He really takes a big picture approach to customer service which I really appreciated. He brought in the inspector with no problems and he labelled the box for me. He even helped me to properly vent my bathroom/kitchen fans to the outside. Overall, I was very satisfied with his work and attitude. He always answered my calls promptly and was good with communication. He was very trustworthy so I would highly recommend him.

Terry removed asbestos from the heating pipes in my basement. The job was done quickly, promptly and professionally. He took 1 minute to give me an estimate and removed it all in 2 hours the very next day. His prices were unbeatable! He has been in the business for 25 years and has a team that works with him. Highly recommended.
