We have an amor maple tree that was damaged during a storm and has been dying ever since then. After searching for tree service companies, we decided to contact Manotick Tree based on good BBB ratings and from what we saw on their web site. Someone came to look at the tree and provide an estimate the day after I contacted their office. Unfortunately, nobody from Manotick Tree followed up with us for two months after we obtained the estimate, so we had to call them again in order to book the date for the work. This time, we were able to have the work done the following week. The work crew arrived in the afternoon, as promised. The men were both very friendly and were happy to answer any questions that I had. They made quick work of cutting down and chipping the tree as well as a good site clean up. Despite the disappointment with scheduling the work, we are quite satisfied with the work. The price that they quoted us was extremely competitive compared with the other companies that we contacted. We would recommend Manotick Tree to others looking for tree removal work, as long as they aren't in too much of a rush.

Approximate cost of services:
$250.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
I would have given this company a full 10 out of 10 if they had been better at following up with scheduling the work to be done.

We had experienced some basement flooding after a string of unusual heavy snowfalls followed by heavy rains this past winter and spring. This company was recommended to us by a friend of a friend. After having carried out my own background research on the company (BBB, Google, HomeStars, etc.), I felt confident in contacting Dave to arrange for a site visit and for an estimate to be written up. Dave was very professional and thoroughly explained what our options were and gave an assessment of the situation. Due to the extremely heavy volume of bookings, Dave couldn't commit to a very firm timeframe, but he did commit to completing the job by the fall. He contacted me by email on a recent Sunday evening to let me know that his crew would start work on the morning of the following Tuesday. He and his crew showed up on time, as promised. Unfortunately, Dave accidentally damaged part of the aluminum cover for the fascia while he was excavating, but he noticed this right away and promised me that he would replace the damaged aluminum the following day when he came to give his end-of-day summary. He also mentioned that he found that the fence posts that he had to dig up to do the work had rotted at the bottoms and that he would replace them without any additional charge. In spite of being on a very tight schedule, Dave was able to complete the work as promised with his three-man crew, and he even managed to add in eavestrough and fence repair services as a free bonus. Overall, we are very satisfied with the work carried out by Dave and his team. We would definitely recommend his company to anyone else who needs work done on their foundation.

Approximate cost of services:
$4,700.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
My only suggestion would be for Dave to consider hiring someone to work in the front office to answer the phone and email. It was a little challenging trying to get a hold of Dave at the beginning due to the extremely heavy workload this year. This being said, I do appreciate all of his efforts and hard work.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
My advice is to do your research on the companies that you are considering. Word-of-mouth is often a good way to get suggestions for good companies, but make sure to do your own background checks as well. Pick at least two, preferably three, companies that have passed your screening and ask them to provide you with quotes. This second stage can also tell you a lot about the companies and what it will be like to work with them. Some companies that we contacted never called us back, and others had to be repeatedly contacted in order to simply receive a quote. My last piece of advice is to educate yourself as much as possible about the basics of foundations, the issues that can occur, and how they are repaired. A little bit of information gleaned beforehand will go a long way when you are dealing with professionals.
