4/10

I don't think we got the best Barry has to offer. Drywall was delivery made a mess. Barry did not communicate along the way, the drywall was delivered on a Friday and I figured that meant work would start on the Monday. Monday came and no one showed up, Barry didn't contact me to let me know, I had to call him and ask when the boarding would begin. The drywall sat in the basement for over a week before anyone showed up to install. Work wouldn't commence before 10 am most days and guys were gone by 3:30. There was not a lot of consideration that this is our home, so I had drywall mud scattered from the front door to the basement stairs daily. I asked for a vapour barrier to be put up 3 times, and eventually did it myself. The cold air return in the office was covered over and it ended up taking over week to address this issue. A portion of the vent has been exposed, but the hole was cut in the wrong place- now I've kind of given up as the ceiling is textured. When I asked for a hold back on final payment until the repairs were completed Barry reminded me it was a 21% interest rate and threatened legal action as his first response. Then he tried to tell me that I should go after the suppliers for the damage. I didn't want to litigate I just wanted repairs done and the cold air return exposed. I thought that was a really disappointing response. Then he offered me $100 off the job. At the end of the day someone came back and patched the damage to the walls, but Barry refused to repaint the damaged areas. Its been just about 5-6 weeks since the drywall was delivered and work is officially over, its less than 1000 sq ft- I don't know if that is good or bad, but the last basement I developed took less than 3 weeks to drywall. I think I will go back to just getting personal references for trades people as this was a pretty disappointing experience. Its a lot of money for a family and a home is your biggest investment, in addition having strangers in and out of your home is a big deal. I thought hiring Barry meant I would have someone ensuring that the work was quality.

Company Response

Sorry you feel that way Elise. I have been in this industry for 30 Years and pride myself in being honest and providing quality work, however I had communicated with you in the beginning that your stairwell was really tight and that getting drywall down the stairs would be difficult, but could be done. When drywall was delivered to your basement you had called and said a couple of bead were scuffed in front entrance as well as scuff marks in the stairwell and at that time I said I would do the touchups for you. I never said I would paint your stairwell and front entrance. The knockdown and taping we done for you looks awesome. I even took pictures the job looks great.we even framed in duct work which was to be done but was still left undone when we started basement so we drywall and taped the heat run in office with out charge so that we could finish the rest of the office .The reason I felt that I had to remind you of your contractual obligation is that you were trying to take advantage, by blaming me for what a supplier had done holding back monies hoping you would get a free paint job.we put matts down I have pictures of that too. With regard to timing of your job when I first quoted your basement you got back to me after a week and said that you wanted to hold off with starting your basement because you were starting a new job,I was fine with that but that took close to a month so I did my best to fit you in. Shortly after we started your place, once taping started I had to have surgery on my shoulder, even with a sling on my right arm I was still doing touchups in your stairwell to complete your job, while another taper was finishing your basement .I have come to realize that no matter how good you treat people it is impossible to make everyone happy, enjoy your weekend.
