6/10

While planning a new roof, I got 3 quotes in. The numbers were so wildly different from the 3 companies, I decided to get 2 more quotes. We settled on the middle quote - belonging to House and Hammer. Their quote was almost $2000 more than the cheapest quote, but much cheaper than the highest quote. Roof was arranged quickly - in fact I got an email one night stating the job was happening the next morning. The crew seemed like a decent lot but were certainly not worried about where waste materials were flying. And that's where my disappointment comes in. The day after the job was done, I went out to my pool. On the way I stepped on a roof nail - not cool!! My son walking behind me also stepped on a separate roof nail. We stopped and I patted the grass over a 12 foot section - found over a dozen nails. Got to the pool and found asphalt and nails in my pool. I reached out to Paul about this very serious situation and got no response from him, instead one of his guys emailed me and showed up 2 days later to run a magnet around my property. This should be an automatic once the roof was done - not by special request after 2 injuries. He found LOTS of nails all around my property. The grass around the one side of the house was also killed - not sure what they did but they fried the lawn. More than a week has passed and I'm still finding odd nails in my lawn. While the roof looks decent, I invested heavy into this project and chose one of the costlier companies. I expect better. Mistakes happen and the odd nail missed I could tolerate. But literally dozens of missed nails is completely unacceptable. In the event of a major screw up like this, I would expect the owner of the company to step up and discuss the matter with me directly, not forward my email to an employee to deal with. He failed on this point.
