Assisted Review

An assisted review is collected by a contractor on behalf of the homeowner after their work is completed. The homeowner must confirm the text of the review and may make any changes she or he deems appropriate. The homeowner then assigns the contractor a review score out of 10. Assisted reviews receive the same scrutiny as other reviews and must follow our review guidelines.

"The construction of our laneway house was typical of any new project in that there was a smooth start, bumpy middle and happy ending. The one difference was that laneway housing had just been approved and we were among the first 100 people to apply for a permit to build. This was uncharted water for the client, the contrator and the city. The finsihed house has become part of the neighbourhood and is truely beautiful inside and out. Getting to this point however, was not always easy. We met Eric Schapira at our house to look at what Klondike was offering and were very impressed with the amount of time and effort Klondike had put into the sales package. Eric showed up with a Laneway House Brochure complete with a cost analysis, architectural renditions and a clear overview of the building process. He introduced to an architect, Khang Nguyen, who came up with a fantastic design. Permits were drawn in October of 2009 and budgeting and contracts were signed by April of 2010. Construction started mid May of 2010. We met and benefitted from the workmanship of many skilled tradespeople throughout the entire construction phase of our project. The problems we encountered along the way were the result of inferior tradesmanship and inefficient project management. Most often, solutions to problems were found by working directly with the pm and the trade in question. On a couple of occasions and certainly near the end of the project, I dealt directly with Eric regarding deficiencies and other problems construction related. Each time I found Eric to be firm and fair and his team got right to work on fixing the problems I had identified. The Klondike team was always accessible and ready to support as well as hold the trades to a high standard. Nine months later, the laneway house was tenanted and has been ever since by the same tenant. This tells me that not only is the house aesthetically appealing, but also functional, efficient and comfortable enough for someone to call home. The transformation from house to home is indicative of thoughtful planning, careful execution and an understanding that a home is a living, breathing and animate object that requires continual attention. Klondike has maintained a relationship with the house that will ensure its health for years to come.
