I recently bought a couple of curtains for two windows for my mom. The curtain shop had a great variety and I was able to get something that suited my needs. The curtains I bought are thick, green and have two panels per window. They will last a long time, and are worth the cost.
The people at Cape Ann Floor are great to work with. They are very knowledgeable about their products and services. They did a tile floor, within a day and it looks great.
Though the prices might not always be the best, the Building Center has most of the items needed for small scale projects. I recently need wood and stain to build a futon and was able to get all that I need from this store and not have to travel a half hour to get them. The convenience factor was huge. The don't have the biggest variety, but they have the essentials.
Ocean State Job Lot is a store that sells mostly overstock items, or items that are not in stock anymore at typical retail stores. Because of this the pricing is excellent, and the variety is great. You can fill a room with accessories for well under $200, and but probably for less depending on your design ideas.
I went to the fabric store looking for a fun variety of fabrics to make a quilt cover for my futon. The variety was great and for a good cost. They have a wide range of novelty fabrics, and many other standard designs. Pieces from the remnant shelves are a great value.
