A neighbour uses this company and so when we needed our gas furnaces, fireplace and water heater serviced we contacted Atlas. The service guys were clean, efficient, and best of all weren't trying to sell us anything. Would have given tops marks had there not been a slight misunderstanding with the office contact, that should have been resolved...

Anthony Dykstra and his crew spent about four weeks with us rebuilding a deck and landscaping the garden. They were great, we've already recommended them to friends and look forward to having them back next year to do a little more work.

Renovator Thom Hirtz is charming, experienced and capable. Unfortunately on our renovation his suppliers and tradespersons were largely incompetent and his accounting was never complete despite the fact that our deal was for a percentage mark-up on actual monies spent. Neither Thom nor I were on site often enough and errors either had to be corrected once spotted or ignored because it was too late. Line-ups didn't line up; levels weren't; doors were installed reversed; and gas, electrical and plumbing issues(!) attended to. Pieces of delivered fittings/equipment were lost or damaged, paperwork is missing.

Approximate cost of services:
$300,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Use only qualified, licensed and experienced trades and revamp the accounting system/personnel.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
View work in progress every couple of days and never assume that anyone else is checking what's being done or who is doing it; whether equipment is complete and as ordered; or that invoices and timesheets are correct. Your renovator may be distracted or simply have too much work to supervise each job adequately. The City, Electrical or Gas inspectors can't be expected to catch every flaw and apparently don't hold the renovator or his trades responsible.

Sean Brady contracted to build three adjoining garages - ours is the middle one - but following excavation announced the cost would climb by $20,000 per unit. He arranged for an Engineer to write a report modifying construction that was accepted by the Toronto Building Inspector but then didn't even follow the minimum requirements set out therein. Not a happy experience.
