Short Version: Good quick service, but despite their claims of cheaper pricing, they charge as much as a more reputable company by creative pricing. Long version: We noticed our furnace was not working at midnight. Called a larger, older, more established furnace repair company and they quoted $180 just to come out. Called Rapid response and they came out for only $99. The issue ended up being a worn out igniter. The work was done in about 5 min. The total charge was 342 including GST. Just out of curiosity I later called the larger furnace repair company and they said to come out at off hours and to replace an igniter would be $340. Rapid charged less to come out, but charged more for the part/install, so they came out to the same price. The larger company would have charged $150 parts and install, Rapid charged $227. Lastly, I looked online and the actual price of a new igniter is about $40. The service was quick and efficient, with the repair guy being a friendly communicator. Overall the quality of work was good, but then again it was a 3-minute simple-looking repair. Being charged 1/3 of the cost of my furnace for something that looked so easy to do left a bad taste in my mouth. Given that they were the same cost, I will stick with the bigger, more established companies in the future.

Approximate cost of services:
$340.00

Check for how much the part costs online before they install it into your furnace. Negotiate the price.

Company Response

I'm sorry to hear that you feel the value was not there for the repair your furnace needed. You are correct in that an ignitor is one of the more minor furnace repairs available. However, the diagnostic to identify the problem and the skilled technician who correctly identifies the problem and replaces the part is involved in the cost of the repair.

As with anything, parts are available online - the problem is, those parts are not available at 1 a.m. for immediate install by a technician.

I would welcome a further discussion of this issue by phone or e-mail and I thank you for your business.
