2/10

I went ahead and purchased a Wagjag voucher for $99 for $500 credit towards windows and doors from Windtek. Went in blind to the company but it seemed like a good deal. We needed a new storm door and had many expenses from recently moving. Based on other reviews, it sounds like Danny would make home visits to discuss their offerings. I was not given this option - probably because I was using a "coupon." I got my quote and placed my order over the phone with Danny in August instead for the new door. After following up with the company myself multiple times, I finally found out that it was ready to be installed, two months later. Our order was by no means custom as we have a standard entry way. When it came time to install, the installer was never able to fit us into his schedule: Scheduled installation date #1 - I had taken the time off work to accommodate the installation mid-morning since I really wanted the door installed after 2 months of waiting for it. That morning, the installer calls to tell me that his other job in the area has been cancelled, so he is cancelling my appointment. First, why does his other appointment cancelling affect my appointment? I didn't cancel. I let him know that I had taken time off work for this, and he said he would try to accommodate the following Saturday. I mentioned it would need to be first thing in the morning, 9, 9:30 as we had plans later in the day. I was to call him later in the week to confirm (why the customer has to call the installer to confirm in the first place, I do not know). Friday morning I called him, and he said that it might rain on Saturday, so he didn't know if he would come and for me to call him back later (again, really? rain will affect the installation even though our door is fully covered by a deep porch? and I have to keep calling him to come install the door for us?). I called him back as requested and he said he'd better come because he is behind in installations. I reminded him that it needed to be early in the morning, 9 or 9:30. Scheduled installation date #2 - 9-9:30, Saturday. I waited until 9:45 before I called him as he had not shown up. He informed me that he was on the way, coming from Hamilton where he recently moved, and that with a stop in Mississauga on the way, he could be there in an hour. I had asked him to come first thing for a reason as we had tickets to a show and needed to be downtown. So, that visit was cancelled. It really should not be any of my concern where this guy lives or where he is coming from if he agrees to a certain time for an appointment. He called back shortly after and said that he could come Tuesday morning, first thing. He had to call someone about something, and he would call me back - he never called back. Scheduled installation date #3 - "first thing" in the morning, Tuesday. To me, first thing means around 9am. Again, I took off work and waited for him. I gave up by 11 and went to work. At 11:30, he leaves me a voicemail (I was working by this point) to say he will be there in an hour. He also had Danny calling me when he arrived, telling me how the installer is outside of my house, ready to install the door after I cancelled our Saturday appointment, that we had an appointment today, and he come a long way to install our door. I guess his time is more important than mine. And go ahead and blame me for cancelling the Saturday appointment when he is 2 hours late!!! The installer has no concept of time, or respect for customer's schedules. Aside from the higher cost of this door ($1050-$500 credit + $99 for wagjag voucher = a very expensive basic storm door!!) that I only went ahead and purchased anyway because I already spent money on the voucher, I missed work for this - twice.  I am not on call for the installer.  I cannot come into work (late from waiting for him), then run back out again when he is available... I called Danny back to explain my side and ended up leaving a voicemail, cancelling the order altogether. No call back. I also emailed the company with zero response. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional installer. Perhaps it was because of my small order of only 1 door, or that I used a wagjag voucher... but if you are going to look down on people for using your coupons, you are not going about the right way to attract new clientele... I've requested a refund from wagjag for the $99, but I'm not holding my breath for it! In the end, I'm out $99, don't have a storm door, and have had a very bad experience with Windtek!

Approximate cost of services:

What could this company do to improve their services?
hire new installers give as much attention to small orders as you would big orders
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
check reviews first, don't go in blind by following online offers like I did

Company Response

At Windtek, we always do our best to work with our customer’s schedule. Sorry that you had a bad experience with us. We did comply with our end of the agreement. We showed up on site ready for install twice. Both times you were not there. We treat our customers with the utmost respect, regardless of the size of the project or if they are WagJag customers. Bonnie, if you wish to discuss further, please don’t hesitate to contact me at anytime. Regards, Danny.
