We recently hired WORKER DIRECT HOME RENOVATIONS to install a waterproof metal ceiling and eavestroughing under our second story deck. This company was recommended by a local supplier of roofing materials. The owners of the company both came to our home and we explained in great detail what we wanted. They provided a quote, we accepted it and materials were ordered. So far so good, right? Well it all went downhill from there. WORKER DIRECT HOME RENOVATIONS did the work over 3 days. It rained shortly afterwards and the ceiling leaked everywhere. I mean everywhere. Seams, corners, down alongside the house, in between the joist and the eavestroughs and the downspouts also leaked. One of the downspouts fell apart during a rainstorm! We complained, in writing, and they came back to “fix” the problems, which mainly consisted of slopping caulking around. They tried to fix a leaky seam between two sheets of metal, but because they manipulated the metal sheets so much they kinked it so now it leaks even more. The eavestrough they installed is sloped the wrong way-so water pools at the wrong end. The whole project is a disaster. Total cost to us so far? $6,300.00. Cost to fix this mess? We aren't sure yet. We have since spoken with 2 other local roofing companies (one who came to see the job and was absolutely appalled by the job that was done), plus the manufacturer of the metal roofing material. All 3 agreed that metal roofing is an excellent material for our application, but it should never have been installed without a waterproof membrane. WORKER DIRECT HOME RENOVATIONS claims to have 40 years of hands on experience. They should have known that a membrane was required. They did send us an email after we complained the second time stating that they have never dealt with this type of scenario and that they considered our job an “experiment”. Seriously? Our attempts to contact WORKER DIRECT HOME RENOVATIONS to resolve this issue have gone unanswered.
