We hired Paul to build a Cabana next to our pool. He was provided with a general design of what we wanted and gave us a budget to build it. Unfortunately there was a structural issue with the upper beam and it sagged. This was less than a year after the project was completed. After over 4 months of not showing up, Paul finally responded and asked for $1000 or more to have the structure replaced with an LVL beam. The LVL beam was what should have been installed in the first place, however he decided to use (2) 2x8 beams. It was his decision as the GC, not mine as the customer. So what would have cost an extra $100 - $150 to be done properly the first time on a $12,000 project, Paul decided to go with 2x8’s and now asked me to pay for it less than a year after building it. I have known Paul for over 30 years and unfortunately I will never hire him as a general contractor again. Sad story but very true.
