Deanna Hutton

Originally we contacted Deanna to help us open up our kitchen. (We are in a small, very old semi-detached in Davisville Village.) The reno ended up changing in scope, and we opened up the entire main floor. Deanna was a fantastic guide from start to finish. Her design was great - our home is now liveable - and she understood the future needs we would have with young kids. Deanna was also very reasonable and generous with her time. The perfect fit for our needs.

We called Dee to help us with space planning in our basement for use as an office/guest room, with room for a second bathroom later down the line.

With our limited budget, we really needed expert advice on how to spend what we have. Dee was amazing! She patiently talked and
brainstormed with us. She created several scale drawings outlining our options for this round of renovations, and how the space would look when completely finished.

Dee's advice was thorough. She gave us specific advice on furniture and appliance placement, where to buy shelving that best suits our space and needs, and where we could source sliding and standard doors that we could size to fit the lower ceiling in the basement.

Dee also went through one of the contractor estimates with us. She showed us where we could save money, and pointed out where we should ask more questions. Dee is thoughtful, thorough, and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommended!

Unlike other designers, Deanna asked us questions about how we wanted to use the space and then designed to suit our needs. She is also practical with her design - one of her first questions was the location of the plumbing stack. She recommended not doing an addition and opening up our kitchen instead. She was right - an addition would not have given us the space we wanted and having the kitchen renovated has really opened up the living space.

And she was happy to offer help with our colour and material choices when asked but did not try to take over or make it her own. We had specific requests before we started (blonde wood cabinets, a farm sink) and she figured out how to make it come together with a perfect choice for a counter.

It was a great experience and we will definitely work with her again.

Deanna Hutton's design consultant services are bang on. We were in a pickle... trying to design a short term residence with "investment" furniture pieces to be used in a conversion LOFT that was delayed yet again. We needed furnishings for a small home but wanted to buy key pieces to use in our new place in 2 short years . We were afraid to purchase expensive furniture before our move in date --- what if it didn't fit?

It just didn't make sense to buy cheap and buy twice. Deanna helped us do it. With her expert space planning skills, we were able to buy the unique pieces we really wanted and grow with them in our new home.

After 42 years in our Don Mills home, Deanna helped us to focus on one challenge at a time after our move to a large but rather dated condo. Overwhelmed by the many decisions, we concentrated on the kitchen which now has been beautifully redesigned and is a pleasure to work in. Deanna is very knowledgeable about all the intricacies of renovation and combines this with a friendly approach and a willingness to listen to all ideas. With her artistic eye the smallest details were given care. The actual installation took a mere three days(!) and her recommendations of companies and sources for the many details of a kitchen renovation were time and money saving. The tradespeople she recommended were skillfull and reliable. Deanna made the whole process a pleasure. We look forward to the next challenge.

Deanna has worked with us on two major projects. The first being a total renovation of our kitchen, which was a real challenge due to the configuration of the space.Deanna also turned her talent to our new cottage, helping us to finalize the details and draw up working plans for our contractors. We had some definite ideas for both projects but Deanna always listened and encouraged us to develop our dreams into reality. We constantly receive compliments on both the kitchen and cottage and are very grateful for Deanna's patience and ideas. We would certainly work with her again and have recommended her to friends in need of direction.

My daughter, Nora, worked directly with Deanna to redesign her room. Deanna was a pleasure to work with they both came up with a beautiful, colourful bedroom that very much reflects my daughter's artistic nature. In addition to coming up with a great colour scheme, Deanna suggested wonderful storage solutions and a furniture arrangement that suits a small room. We are really pleased with how this project turned out and would work with Deanna again anytime.

Deanna Hutton is truly creative with interior design and making the best use of your space. Deanna helped us de-clutter and reorganize our living space and it’s transformed our home! She provided us with low-budget solutions for efficient storage of our kid’s toys, redesigned our closets and bathroom storage area and created a workable office space for us. Deanna is sensitive to her clients' personal taste and values and especially their budget. Plus she can refer you to the right subcontractor if you need it. We would strongly recommend Deanna to others and indeed we already have!

Even when I know exactly what I want Deanna always comes up with something extra that makes a good design simply amazing. We are systematically going through our whole home room by room with Dee's help and I love all her suggestions and design ideas. Our 3rd floor renovation was a huge project that she helped us get through from the gutting stage to the finishing touches of lighting choices and wall colour. I still get excited everytime I climb the stairs to my new space.

Our kitchen needs a full renovation but Dee was instrumental in making the space more practical and functional until we can afford the big changes. On a very small budget my kitchen is now so much easier to work in and looks great! Painting the cupboards, re-designing the "work triangle" all contribute to a much more functional kitchen that I can actually prepare meals in without losing my mind. I get compliments every time someone comes in.

Dee has a knack for being very practical and organized yet her sense of fun and eye for colour make every project unique.
I love working with Dee and will continue to do so for many projects to come.

Deanna has helped me with every home improvement project I've done. I bought my house over 5 years ago, its a small house and I wanted to repaint every room including the front door. I also didn't have any furniture and needed advice on room layout and maximizing the space. Deanna took the time to find out what style and feel I wanted in the house and helped me pick colours for every room. I love it!! In fact when I have to repaint I'll likely do the same colours. She has helped me design my basement, my kitchen and helped organize closet space. Its all great. I'm so happy with all my finished projects. I know I love my house more because of this advice.
