Simon was the general contractor for our basement renovation. We were very happy with the work that was done and the finished result. Simon was skilled, knowledgeable, trustworthy and had great attention to detail. He also had excellent follow up for any issues that arose. Simon was very respectful of the fact that it was our hard earned money that he spending for the renovation and he was alway very cost conscious while not compromising quality. I would definitely hire him if I needed a general contractor again.

Simon is a very professional and hard working person who goes beyond what he needs to do. His attention to detail and willingness to collaborate and communicate made doing a renovation a pleasure. He is trustworthy, honest and looks out for the best interest of all involved in the process. He is creative and skillful at what he does and the people who work with him display the same attitude. He is patient and is always willing to discuss concerns. A top notch carpenter and contractor who is talented enjoys what he does. He is always looking for ways to improve and to learn. Great organizational skills with high expectations. Thanks Simon - our house looks terrific!

I first learned about Simon Boisvert when searching Homestars for reviews of good renovators. I was blown away by what I saw on Simon's website--beautiful architectural carpentry. We felt very lucky that he did a relatively modest project for us, and he did it with a great attitude. The work is perfection, and has totally changed the look of our kitchen. My husband and I are thrilled. And Simon even vacuums up after himself. We were actually sorry to see him move on to the next project. Thank you Simon

Simon was what anyone looking for a contractor should expect. At his first visit to our house he was thoughtful in his approach to our project and provided us with some excellent options as to the best way to complete the project. he provided his quote very quickly, and the cost was very competitive. Simon followed up to ask us if we had any questions and was very willing to answer those we had. Once he started the job he was always on time, courteous, and he cleaned up carefully at the end of each day. The materials he selected were of very high quality. The craftmanship he exhibited in the woodworking was superb. There were no cost over-runs, the contracted painter he brought in also did an excellent job and cleaned up completely afterwards. In contrast to other contractors we have reccently had at our house we have not had to bring Simon back for any defective work, a welcome change and evidence of his care in planning and delivering on the project. The completed project looks wonderful and we are very grateful to have been recommended Simon. We will definitely be using Simon for futher renovation projects. Thank you Simon!

Simon and his crew made reno work virtually painless if that is possible. All workers were punctual, courteous and skillful. Work was competed on time and under budget! Simon even helped with our kitchen design and aesthetics with moving exterior doors and changing windows. Can't wait to have him back to work in the livingroom!

Simon does excellent work on minor renovations, too. He helped me out with several little jobs while providing me with an honest estimate for my cupboard doors. Then, he expertly crafted and installed my doors on time and for a reasonable price. He was reliable, knowledgeable, and courteous, with a great work ethic. Simon is a nice guy who really knows what he's doing. I'm glad he was recommended to me, and I'm happy to pass that along.

It is not really our style to give 10/10s but based on our experience with East-to-West Carpentry vs. other contractors, it would be impossible not to give this rating. Simon managed a major renovation on our house involving a 90% gut including removal and rebuild of the back half of the house (essentially all but 4 of the original rooms in our house are new). When we approached Simon to do some finishing carpentry we had a general contractor lined up to take us to lock-up (i.e. demolition, excavation, foundation, framing, sheeting, doors, windows) and we were going to take it from there (in terms of general contracting). When that contractor backed out we asked Simon if he wanted to quote on the lock up and he said yes. Because his quote was competitive in terms of price and the best in terms of promised service (i.e complete project management including management of the plumber and electrician that we had already hired), we decided to go with him. As the project progressed Simon gained our complete confidence and we ended up giving the whole job to him. East-to-West Carpentry is completely competent and professional and are a shining example of how this type of business should operate. Communication was completely open and honest throughout the project so that we always felt we knew exactly what was going on and why (even when there were problems). The quality of the work was impeccable and we certainly feel that we got the best value for our money. Overall, Simon and East-to-West made the renovation as low stress as one possibly can for a project of this scope. Below are some of the extraordinary highlights of his performance. 1) At the beginning of the project we notice the architectural and engineering diagrams were deficient with one of the bathrooms designed to be about 5 feet in height and insufficient support beams. Simon redid the design turning the bathroom into a mechanical room and the mechanical room into the bathroom and did all the work for the engineer so all he had to do was sign off on the changes. 2) When we noticed our plumber placed a bathroom drain on the wrong side of the wall (i.e. in the living room rather than the bathroom) at 7:00 pm the night before they were scheduled to pour the foundation, Simon didn’t flinch - he dug up pipe and got the plumber back in at 6:00 am to fix it before the concrete truck arrived on schedule. 3) Relationship management with the neighbours. Simon seemed to know all our neighbours by name and they all seem to like him – no complaints. In the final analysis, East-to-West Carpentry is the real deal. They got all points covered including cost, quality, timing and reliability and it is unlikely that you can do much better. We recommend East-to-West to all are friends with 100% confidence.

Simon was referred to us by a co-worke, and after meeting with him a couple of times decided to choose him as our contractor instead of two others that we interviewed. His costing was about 60% of the two quotes given byt he others, which in our opinion seem more realistic. He was also very pleasant and gave good suggestions and ideas so we decided not to hire an interior designer. Although we had to wait before he could start on our project, once he and his crew started, we were amazed by how much got done. His crew were professional, well organized, on time, showed up when they were supposed to, and pleasant to interact with. We were happy with the quality of work done and moved in on the agreed-upon date. Finally, the after-completion care has been stupendous. Simon has been to our house three or four times to address deficiencies. He even did some trouble-shooting on our dishwasher problem saving us from getting a repair person in, which was really over and above the call of duty. He is a super nice guy, honest, trustworthy, conscientious and a pleasure to work with. We will be calling on him for sure for other house upgrades in the future.

Simon is very friendly over the phone, and my client in Vancouver is having him back a second time for another installation job! In both cases, he was able to come the very next morning. Thanks, Simon!

Simon renovated our 30-year old Vancouver Special in the winter and spring of 2008. He did a terrific job: we are happy with the work three years later. The work included a complete gutting of the first floor so that we could reconfigure the space in a way that was more appropriate to our family's lifestyle. We moved a kitchen and a bathroom, and changed a supporting wall. We installed new plumbing and electrical components (including a new 250 amp service to the house), changed our heating system, and installed a new hot water tank. Simon supervised trades for the plumbing, electrical, and drywall, and installed a kitchen (custom cabinetry, which is fantastic), new floors, cabinets and tiles in the bathroom, new doors and windows. We enjoyed working with Simon because we felt we could trust him. He is hardworking and cares about quality. He also is sensitive to the budget we presented and I feel that we got the right value for our money. This is a glowing review, and my only hesitation in publishing it is that I worry that the next time we do a renovation that Simon simply won't be available!

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
We obtained permits for our work, and I highly recommend that others do the same. Even with a great contractor, there's a peace of mind in knowing that everything meets code and a third-party expert says so,
