We were just about to list our house, but our agent feared that the state of our roof would put off buyers The rest of our house was in great shape - new bathrooms, new kitchen - so we decided to put a new roof on before listing the house Finding a good roofer is tough - finding a good roofer quickly is much harder. All the reputable roofers on Homestars couldn't fit us in til the following spring. We found Ronnie and his crew through a trusted friend - And we were overjoyed that Ronnie and his crew had a new roof on our house in < 2 weeks. They were quiet, clean, and very respectful. Thank you Ronnie!

We recently purchased a house with an artificial pond filled with the most beautiful orange fish. As old man winter is moving into the neighborhood, we've asked Red Fish Blue Fish for their assistance. They spoke with use about how to keep the pond warm enough for the fish to survive, the necessity to remove leaves from the water as they'll eat up valuable oxygen, plus armed us with pellets to drop into the pond that helps keep the water safe for our tenants to survive til spring arrives. thank you - from us and the little orange guys.

4 nights in a row my wife and I were awakened by loud noises on the roof. 4:30 am one night (morning) I ventured outside "to see what was the matter" only to find a racoon peering at me, then dodged snowballs as I wooped and hollered. The next day I called Bill - he showed up at our house within 24 hours with live traps in hand. A very nice guy, very friendly and knowledgeable. He toured our property, looking for more details about the beast, then advised that it was best to set a trap to catch the animal when the weather got warmer. It was possible that he animal had made a home in our chimney as some bricks had been torn off. Last night we awoke to the trap catching the vermin. Bill showed up about an hour ago to remove the culprit - he's now on route to bring the 40lb oldboy to a vacation spot in Emily Park. We'll keep in touch with Bill - it's possible this was a visiting suitor for a female asleep in our house. We'll let you know how Bill helps us get more sleep.

get a professional in quick - if you wait too long you may have suitors dropping by and babies ready to tear up your house

Rona's had the best price on bamboo flooring, which in retrospect likely shouldn't have been our main buying factor. After numerous visits to the store (sorry that person is on lunch, or sorry the flooring person isn't working today) we finally landed at the store on the same day that someone could help us make the purchase. Thinking that Bamboo was Bamboo, the per sq ft price was going to save us hundreds of dollars. It was my second experience laying hardwood - fairly easy with a good chop saw and a nail gun and compressor. The problem with the flooring became apparent days later, when our dog was ripping deep scratches in floor; then the vacuum, the kids playing, etc. I'm not talking about roughhousing, just regular activities. Activities that didn't leave scratches in our existing soft pine floors. So bamboo isn't bamboo, and seems like Rona has decided that stocking cheap flooring is good business - repeat business? forget it - will never shop there again.

(when is asbestos expected ?) We were in the demo phase of a kitchen reno, and these folks came out within 24 hours to both spec and finish the job. Bagging the area, pulling the asbestos around an air vent up from the basement and down from my daughter's bedroom, into the safety of containment. All done while only losing 1 day of labour on the demo. The D&F team helped us feel safe around such a dangerous product - and kept us very close to schedule. I would not hesitate to recommend this outstanding team to anyone - I've never felt so unconditional about a contractor.

look around vents for white paper like material - likely asbestos - used as an insulator between the hot pipes and wood flooring (someone actually thought that the heat from the vents would torch our floors!)

I leave the original review below for you - the rating goes from a 9 to a 1... a year after this reno, we ren'oed our kitchen - directly below the bathroom opening the kitchen ceiling revealed that huge sections of the floor joists were cutaway - 50 - 70% gone! the joists were sinking, and in time would fall upon us. They were cutaway to allow plumbing access. reminds me of a Holmes on Homes episode - friggin idi*ts! risk our lives, our childrens. secondly, not as critical, the ceiling fan was vented into the knee wall in our attic - right against another joist - no venting to the outside - black mold is building up. Do NOT use Shawn - nice guy - big smiles - but clearly not qualified to pull off a job of this complexity. ----------------- Shawn worked from basic plans, helping us to select products and tune our layout. 3 months later we ended up with clearly the best room in our house - a 15x15 bathroom appointed with roman tub, tiled shower, nicely tiled floors. Having been our first big reno project we learned many lessons that we'll take to the next project, so we cannot fully fault Shawn for the time and budget slippage. Both these were partly the result of our lack of involvement (leaving many decisions in his hands) and pre-planning. In the end we have a bathroom that certainly adds equity and distinctiveness to our century home. And we are looking forward to working with the always smiling and happy Shawn, as he bring enthusiasm and honesty to every minute of his projects. He is one in a million fellow that will work very hard to make your renovation project what you dream.

Brian is a friendly and helpful contractor. We feel that a great personality is often a cornerstone of a great contractor. Brian helped us source a good window product, quoted the job, and ordered with our minimal assistance. The install took one day with only one small problem removing an old window - which he fixed. The work was done in the summer of 2007, and we haven't had any problems with the install since (now: March 2008), plus a portion of the work qualified for the ontario home energy grant problem.
