during very strong downpours water was running over the eaves at two spots. My hope was that by installing larger downspouts these problems might be fixed. I asked three companies for quotes and in the end I chose Century because when the estimator came by to look at the job, he clearly tried to sell me only what I needed for solving the problem. I got the sense that Dorian was knowledgeable and honest and that was really important. And when the quote came in $150 below the next guy it was really a simple choice. The work was done quickly, with excellent communication between Gary and me throughout and all looks good. Now we await the first major rain storm to see how it all works. I would definitely recommend these guys.

We contacted John in May and we had to wait till August for our deck. Well, we weren't too happy when he told us about the long waitlist but we are very glad we hired him. We thought that he is busy for a reason and indeed the wait was definitely worth it for us. John and his crew just finished building a gorgeous deck. And we are equally happy with the process. So in May we contacted four companies, quotes ranged a little bit but not that much actually. John was not the highest but up there. Definitely not the lowest. The differences weren't that great and we liked the reviews for him here on Homestars. My wife and I also just liked him as a person. He comes across honest, straight-forward and definitely competent. We had a good feeling about him and these things turned out to be all true. He and his crew really build a great deck. The payment process was transparent throughout, there was excellent workmanship, attention to detail, and, very importantly, when John ran into problems with us (for example, we used that new PT wood called MicroPro Sienna which looks nice but because of variance among the boards needed to be hand-picked by John to avoid a blotchy looking deck!) such as having to drive to three or four stores to hand pick the wood and exchange boards already put down, he did not charge extra. We added and changed a few smaller things here and there that made his life difficult at times and he never charged extra except for material. No "nickel and diming" which I like a lot. He always stayed positive and nice throughout the whole process, he communicated a lot to make sure things get done the way we wanted. In sum, his ratings on here are absolutely true. We are very glad we waited for him and that means something because we lost out on almost the whole summer. I absolutely recommend him. Just make sure you get in line early enough.

He charges $150 for service call which is fine if work is quality. Looked good at the beginning. He seemed competent and deliberate trying to find out what it could be. Saw that the pressure switch seemed to act up early on and shut furnace down. Checked the switch and said it worked. At that point you would think an experienced repair guy (which he is) would look at the part that the pressure switch measures. But he did not. Instead he managed to come back three times (charging $150 each time of course plus, strangely, another $50 for having to pick up parts--you'd think the part company would ship them...), replaced pretty much the whole interior of the furnace, just to end up realizing that it indeed was the fan whose pressure the pressure switch measures (that the casket was completely rotten was actually pretty visible even to a lay eye making me think that he saw that right away but decided to milk this job for what it was worth). So bottom line, a job that in the hands of an experienced repair guy should have been around $300-500 but with this guy became a $1300 job.
