We've used Gem on many occasions, but in the last few years have been suspicious that they are more and more ripping us off. We recently needed a firebox replaced in the boiler. It was an emergency, so we didn't shop around. They charged $2300. We just found out that our oil company (who we did not have a service contract with at the time) would have charged $550 for the same service; we have a full and official quote from the oil company on this. Gem also told us that we needed a new transformer; the oil company came out and said there was nothing wrong with it. I believe that Gem has gotten more and more slick, and more and more of a rip-off. Make sure to get a second quote before giving them any major business.
