We hired Alex to tear down the existing basement left by the previous owner and rebuild from scratch. We were concerned with the things we couldn't see behind the walls and wanted to find someone with the experience to make things right.

From the initial consultation, Alex's experience and attention to detail came through. Of all the other contractors we invited to provide quotes, Alex was the only one that spent over an hour walking through the basement with us, outlining the work that he'd do, and pointing out areas of concern, and the things likely hidden behind the walls that he'd need to fix. His quote was fair, with a detailed breakdown of the different costs. The other companies were in and out within 10 minutes.

During the job, Alex arrived early every day, and made sure to leave a clean job site before he left. I appreciated the fact that he only does one job at a time, so that he can focus on providing great work without needing to jump to other jobs. After demolition, Alex was extremely transparent about the hidden issues that he was able to uncover, and was clearly able to explain the problems, and how to fix them rather than just covering them up, and moving on to the next job.

As with any job, hiccups arise due to miscommunication, but Alex would consistently take the time to go back and address anything that happened. He always wanted to make sure we were happy, and went out of his way to do the little things to make our basement exactly the way we wanted it. He also took it upon himself to address things that we didn't see.

Overall, I'd highly recommend Alex. His honestly, transparency and customer-focus made him a pleasure to work with.

I contracted Alex to renovate my ensuite bathroom and what an amazing transformation. It is absolutely beautiful! And I owe it all to Alex and his crew. We hired A&R Renovations to do our main ensuite, powder room, partial opening of wall, paint entire house and stairs, install hardwood floor throughout, LED lighting, new switches, outlets, casings, baseboard, relocate plumbing and gas line.

Working with Alex was the best experience we could ask for. He was extremely attentive to what we were looking for, gave great recommendations for pieces as we were looking for them, and was very communicative throughout the whole job. Alex walked us through the renovation daily to ensure we understood the process and if there were surprises, he documented them and explained proper the course of action.

This past summer, we decided it was time for a full basement renovation.
A & R Renovations had done a stellar job of our main floor and upstairs 5 years earlier, so we decided to go with them again.

Our goal was to take our unfinished 'ancient' basement and create a family room, laundry room, second bathroom and storage room, while rerooting plumbing, adding new HVAC, and a new high efficiency furnace, and waterproofing the exterior walls.

The project began on time and we immediately saw progress. Alex was always there on time and worked diligently throughout the day, while coordinating all aspects of the project and communicating with us on everything. He worked to minimize the amount of time we were out of the house, and provided us with advise and recommendations as we decided on finishes, fixtures and more.

The end result greatly exceeded our expectations. We couldn’t be happier! We have a lovely space for our family that I am still blown away by every time I see it!
