This is the third mattress I've purchased from Halstead. Hola what a difference in quality from the "big box" manufacturers!! Martin was personable, knowledgeable and delivered the mattress to my home personally at 9:30 in the evening - he'd promised it would be ready for my trip to the Shuswap Friday morning and it was ready to go Thursday evening as we had agreed. I felt that the "turnaround time" was pretty exceptional in that I'd only purchased the "custom size" mattress (extra long double) on the Saturday afternoon six days before I needed it. Lets see,,, that would be only SIX days from placing the order til delivery!!!! So to me despite the naysayers (all of two or three) my vote is with Martin and the team an Halstead! If you like you can ask him to have me call you if you'd like a first hand account of their product and service! And noooo I do not work for Halstead nor am I in any way being compensated!! :-)

Our experience here started off well, as once you're in the door the sales staff is very friendly and helpful. We had narrowed down our choice of fabrics for our sectional to 2 and took home the samples to see them in the room the sofa would be going in. We chose the costlier option that Martin had recommended. We prepaid the entire amount which was just over $6300. That is where the good experience ended. We were told our sectional would be ready at the beginning of January (ordered October 27/12). This day came and went without a phone call. When I called I was told it would be finished by the beginning of February. This date came and went. After leaving messages we finally heard from Martin and were told it would be delivered by feb 16th at the latest. We moved out our existing furniture to have our carpets cleaned in preparation for delivery. I called february 16th and again was given a number of excuses as to why it wasn't finished (the uphosterer injured his hand, the fabric hadn't come in, the fabric was difficult to work with). There was always an excuse. Finally in March after leaving several messages (no calls ever returned by Martin himself) and explaining that we had no furniture in our tv room we were told it was complete and would be delivered. Again the date passed with no call. I finally had to call and demand a refund if it wasn't going to be delivered by that week. The morning of delivery I received a call from Ryan saying our ottomans weren't done in time for them to get on the delivery truck. The couch was delivered and we discovered the cushions were very very firm. When I complained, Martin said it was due to the fabric I chose (the one he strongly recommended). They offered to switch out the cushions and deliver them back with the ottomans if I dropped them off at the factory. Finally after my husband called a number of times, they said they would deliver the ottomans on Thursday. I received the ottomans and much to my dismay the size of them does not line up with the sofa (they are a couple inches longer). If you are spending over $6000 on a piece of custom furniture you expect that custom would mean the measurements are perfect. It is far from perfect. It has now been 5 months and we just received all the pieces yesterday. My husband and I are so tired of dealing with the gong show that is this company that we are afraid to complain about the size of the ottomans even though it is an obvious screw up. I would never recommend Halstead to anyone! Ever! 5 months later we have an imperfect very expensive sectional that took hours of my time making phone calls and leaving messages to finally get. All they ever offered us for all the inconveniences and delays was free delivery. They are very dishonest, make false promises involving delivery dates, don't give you straight answers, put the blame on the customer when things go wrong and do nothing to make up for all of this.

We purchased furniture from this company a number of years ago because we have a very old historical home we were not able to find furniture that met the size we needed for the rec room in the basement. They made a four piece sectional that met and exceeded all of our expectations, we were able to connect all 4 pieces together once in the basement and haven't taken them apart since. More recently we purchased two mattresses for our vacation home and once again the customer service and product is second to none. We will continue to support this company and recommend to our family and friends.

They are the best place to go to buy a chemical-free mattress. Almost all mattress companies (serta, beautyrest, sealy, kingsdown, tempurpedic...etc) are all made with memory foam and harsh chemical fire-repellants which off-gas toxic VOC (volatile organic compunds)... Do you really want to sleep on something like that for 1/3 of your life?? Halstead can build you a VOC-free mattress with safer, more natural materials. They can be comparable in price to the big brands, and just as or more comfortable. They use natural latex and organic cotton. I highly recommend as I feel I can sleep safe and healthy at night.

Amazing bed and the customer service was fantastic. We had our queen mattress shipped to Montreal and Halstead was available to us from A to Z, for all our questions. I had read on this site before purchasing that there are sometimes issues with Halstead regarding delivery. Not the case whatsoever with us. We couldn't be more pleased with the service provided and product received. I'm now sleeping through the night! I would highly recommend Halstead to anyone looking for a new mattress.

This review is to follow up on my previous review posted in November. I finally received my new mattress, took it home and tried it out. I found the middle section too soft (I had ordered a 3 section mattress with a firmer middle and softer ends). I called Halstead and they offered to adjust the foam insert. I removed the insert from my mattress (it zips out), brought it back to the store, and within the same day they had replaced the middle part with a much firmer foam. That impressed me! Then in January the manager called me to ask if i was happy with it and to apologize for the delay, explaining that they had experienced a sudden staff shortage and an increase in business and could not keep up. I appreciated their call. I suggested that a phone call during that busy time to their customers might have been a good idea. Knowing the reason for the delay would have set my mind at ease.

I ordered a new insert for my latex bed purchased from Halstead and was told I would receive it before Christmas. I ordered it over the phone and they required my credit card and payment in full. Their beds are comfortable however their customer service is severly lacking - these folks over promise and under deliver and then avoid you as they don't have what they promised. Would not recommend if you expect your item in a timely matter - if time does not matter the product is great. Personally find the process very frustrating as I believe when someone says they will provide product on a specific date that they will especially when they require full payment before you receive your product.

I would highly recommend Halstead for all of my upholstered headboards. I have a Design and Staging company and use upholstered headboards and beds frequently both for staging and have them custom made for my clients. Michelle and Martin have been excellent to work with and always done their best to meet my needs in a timely manner. Some of the most beautiful beds we've done have been a collaboration with Halstead Mattress makers and our clients have been thrilled with the outcome.

The service at this company was just ok, it was direct, to the point and I was able to get what I needed. However, I would caution future customers to NOT BE IN A RUSH. They delayed my sofa twice, which luckily was fine for me, but I definitely would have been annoyed if I needed it by a certain date.
