Wilkens Contracting 'gets my vote.' I'd hire them again without hesitation. Perfect work, perfect service. Polite, knowledgeable, skilled. Mr. Wilkens gave me an estimate 1 year ago, but we didn't want to spend the money on this job at that time. He gave me the same estimate this year. We contacted Wilkens due to the reviews on this site and were one of the few that returned our calls and actually gave us an estimate. We had to wait about a month to get the work done as they were busy - however they did advice us it would be a while when we decided to go with them. They called the day before they came and the job got done. I didn't even notice they had been there except that our chimney was lower and it was capped. We didn't find any debris or extra materials lying around. Overall we are pleased with the work done. No complaints here!

I was very happy with the work done. Ernie Wilkens at first seemed like a very nice man. They did all the work listed on the contract then took care of some small extras that I asked for. When it came down to invoicing me for the extras the price went up tremendously. When I asked for an explaination for the extra charges they just told me that it was for all the extra work I requested get done but Ernie wouldn't give me a break down of how the extras were being billed. I had only asked for a couple of extra little jobs that needed to be done differently. I don't believe that they were worth the $800.00 that he was asking. I offered to pay $600.00 and actually told him if he wasn't happy with that I would give him the full $800.00. He agreed to take the $600.00 so I paid his guys and we left it like that. Recently I called Ernie for some other work that I need done and he said that since I didn't pay him what he wanted before, he wasn't going to do anymore work for me. I don't beleive this treatment is fair. Now I have to call the the other companies that were competeing against Wilkens for the tuckpointing job which was much more work than I need now. They are not going to be happy coming to do this littler job since they lost out to Wilkens on the first job. Wilkens wasn't even the cheapest price I had got, I just gave them the job because I thought that I could trust Ernie to be fair and to provide good workmanship. At least I got 1 out of 2.

Sure, the office staff was kind, but I had to track them down to find out when they were coming, and the workers took an very relaxed approach to the job, broke some of my property and then didn't do more than tell my child about it. When I called to ask for Mr. Wilkens to come see, I never heard from them again.The price quote was the same as others. I picked Wilkens because of the reviews here.

Most impressed with the pride Wilkens Contracting Inc. took in its work. We now have the best-looking chimney in the neighbourhood at a price that was very competitive. The estimate and work were done when promised, all material was cleaned-up, the crew returned to remove old bricks lodged in the chimney without additional charge, and each person we dealt with was courteous and knowledgeable.

Wilkens was recommended to me by word of mouth and I can now add my own recommendation. Our fireplace chimney started shedding bits and pieces of brick near the top. One chimney contractor advised me that we needed to rebuild the chimney up from the roofline. A sceptical friend of mine suggested I get another opinion. Wilkens took a look and offered to fix the problem for just a third of the first estimate. Their work appears to be excellent and it was a breeze dealing with them. In fact, all the arrangements were made verbally over the phone: I never had to wait around for an estimator, the work was done while I was away on vacation, and the bill didn't arrive until a gentlemanly ten days later! Can't be too many businesses still left that operate in such a civilized way.

The experience of dealing with Wilkens Contracting was such a pleasant surprise. From the first contact by phone with Dave to the quote from Mr. Wilkens to the actual quality work - was just excellent. I would highly recommend them.

Five years ago when we bought our house, our home inspector told us we needed some tuck pointing. I finally got around to getting a quote. What a happy surprise to hear from Mr. Wilkens that we didn't need any tuckpointing! He could have made some money off us but didn't. Wow, I was impressed!

We were very pleased with the quality of the work and the matching of the grout/cement to the existing so that the repairs blended in. Ernie came himself to review the work and gave us great advice regarding the the dryer vent and came back later to patch the holes.
