I changed my entire 2nd floors' window 3 months ago. I wasn't satisfied with the result as my reason to change the windows is noise issue. Although the new windows installment was clean, smooth and they also looked good. My noise problem did not improved(maybe only 10% better than the old window). And I wrote an review on homestars as here was where I found the company. About 2-3 weeks after I left the reviews. Consumers Choice contacted me and offering me a lower cost to replace my new triple glazed windows to laminated windows within a month in order to solve the noise problem. Although the problem wasn't completely solve( I would say about 60% better than the original old window). I appreciated the sincere business attitude of Consumers Choice and the effort they put on individual customer.

From our first meeting with sales rep Joe Waddell through to the installation by Ivan and his helper we were impressed. Joe was friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable of their products. The installation process was equally professional (and actually came in a couple of weeks earlier than originally planned). The installer, Ivan clearly takes great pride in his work and did a terrific job. The windows and patio door look great and Ivan left the place in pristine condition when they left (we opted for the mini blinds between the glass on the patio door- LOVE IT!) We had the whole house done which included the door and 2 bay windows as well as converting another sliding glass door to a window. Everything met our expectations and more. Thank you

Now that spring is here, I know some people would be looking at replacing their windows in their home. With all the different companies available, there is one company I can suggest anyone in the GTA avoid like the plague: CONSUMER'S CHOICE high efficiency Windows & Doors Back in Sept 2012, we wanted to replace some windows in our home as we thought new windows would be quieter, more energy efficient and an upgrade from our old windows. We went called a number of companies and then settled on Consumers Choice windows as according to their website they have been around for a long time, have window wise certification etc. We replaced about 6 out of the 20 windows we have in our home and to date, we have called them close to 12 times for a variety of reasons: - Water leaking (appears to be fixed) - Hinges creaking - Window locks jamming and breaking - Wind whistles We have called the company no fewer then 10 times between Dec 17 to now for these issues and they have been unresolved. We have windows that cannot be opened as the window lock is jammed. Whenever there is an East wind (10 km/h or more), I hear constant whistling noises and on strong wind nights it keeps me awake. Funny thing is that my 19 year old windows never had wind noise and lock/hinge issues and at times I wish I kept the old one and saved the over $6K we spent on these things. Whenever we call the company to get someone to visit, the minimum wait is 2 to 3 weeks. When they come, they just take pictures to send to the manufacture and then say they will call me back. They never call back! We end up calling to find status and they say either that is how it is and nothing we can do, or they tell us the manufacturer will call and we have to wait several weeks for resolution. In terms of my whistling window, they say that is how it is and there is nothing that can be done. So as it stands now, we have a nice sunny day in Toronto and I cannot open my window as the lock is jammed. If I could turn back the clock, I would not touch these guys from a 10 foot pole!

Company Response:
Please find our response to the above review. The customer’s review concerns service to be performed under the lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. Although Consumer’s Choice has no power over the manufacturer or their service schedule, we have contacted the manufacturer on the customer’s behalf to assist in expediting the matter. We understand the customer’s concerns, but according to the manufacturer, all minor service concerns have been attended. At the time of writing, the customer has booked another service appointment with the manufacturer for May 17, 2013. It is important to note that every time the customer phoned for a manufacturer’s warranty service, the manufacturer attended. With regards to the time between service visits from the manufacturer, it has been explained by the manufacturer to us that calls are scheduled to the best of their ability while cooperating with customer’s schedules, and that also, a delay occurred due to the Christmas holiday shut-down. It is our sincere wish that the customer’s product warranty concerns will soon be resolved, while at the same time, we must stress that the customer’s review relates directly to the manufacturer and not to Consumer’s Choice Home Improvements. In any event, the customer’s contract falls under the Window Wise National Certification Program and they are, therefore, entitled to windows which meet Window Wise’s high standards. For this reason, we have arranged on the customer’s behalf, to have a Window Wise inspector attend their home to conduct a thorough inspection of the products and produce a report advising the manufacturer of any service or product modifications, if needed. Since the windows are registered with the Window Wise National Certification Program, and are covered by a comprehensive warranty, an inspection, then, will ensure that all of the windows must meet the necessary Window Wise criteria. I was going to sell the house but after the windows were installed I was so pleased I decided not to. We used to put plastic on the windows to seal them for the Winter and now we can crank them open whenever we need fresh air. The installation was fantastic and the window are top quality. They keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter. The special perks and rebates were great. Thank you Joe.

The job was supposed to be finished in 3 days, they broke one window so had to re-schedule for one window. After re-scheduling two more times guy came 2 weeks later, installed the window said he had the wrong trim had to come back next day and ended up installing wrong trim. This job was supposed to be done a month ago still waiting. The indoor trim work had broken pieces installed and nail pops through brand new window frame not to mention not one of the joints met and they just left it. Customer service is almost confrontational, when I called to get this mess fixed and to be compensated the lady asked me to come up with a figure for compensation not once did she try to make me feel better about spending $17,000 on shoddy work. If the work that I can see is this bad I just wonder about the work that I don't see. Very disappointed and stressed about our brand new windows on our first house. I read reviews for this company before going with them and they were stellar, so not sure what happened with our job, guess thats just my luck.

Company Response:
Please find our response to the above review. Although the review was forwarded by “Cliff from Newcastle”, upon further research, we discovered that the purchaser’s name on the contract was Erica Martin. It is a fact that the glass in one of the windows broke during the delivery process. Unfortunately, on occasion, there are glass breakages from time to time in the window industry. Also, with custom manufacturing and installation into customer’s homes, certain adjustments are made on site at the very time of the renovation. When the original installation was completed, the customer signed a completion certificate, indicating their complete satisfaction and their understanding that the broken glass sealed unit would be replaced and that the casing trim concerns would be attended. Our records indicate that a service request was reported on March 26, 2013. The customer was contacted by our Service Department the next day, on March 27, 2013, to book a service appointment for April 3, 2013. On that date (March 27, 2013), the customer forwarded their review to Home Stars. Also, on April 2, 2013, prior to the service appointment, the Installation Manager performed an inspection of the customer’s concerns. At that time, it was noted that some casing trim mitres did not line up perfectly. Also, it was discovered that door frames and baseboards, not installed by our company, also showed gaps on the mitres. This suggests a, likely, dry environment problem. The installer arrived, on April 3, 2013 at 1:00pm and completed the service by 1:30pm. The service has now been completed to the customer’s satisfaction, and a service report was signed by the customer indicating their satisfaction. They mentioned to the installer that they are now happy and will likely be retracting their review to Home Stars. Our Installation Manager phoned the customer on April 4, 2013, one day after the service was completed, and confirmed that all was well. Since Home Stars put restrictions on the details that may be revealed on the site, please note that complete information regarding this project is available upon request. We would like to stress that it is Consumer’s Choice sole endeavour to provide and install excellent energy saving products, installed to the very highest Window Wise standards. We pride ourselves on attending to the special circumstances that arise when dealing with the concerns of home owners and their custom renovation product needs. We trust that this customer joins 99.7% of satisfied Consumer’s Choice customers. Now that the work is completed, we would be proud, with the customer’s permission, to display photographs of the home renovations which we performed in our promotional material. Yours sincerely, Stan Greenberg, CEO Consumer’s Choice Home Improvements

Very positive experience starting with salesperson Anthony N. Very ethical person. Kept us informed and attended to glitches. Installers were clean, courteous and very skilled at installation. Love that they took their shoes off and cleaned up as best they could. Already recommended Anthony N. to friends.

Replaced all windows and doors in our home. Happy with all aspects of purchase and installation. Great people to work with. Our house looks great and our heating bill has significantly decreased since the changes. Our house was recently burglarized and thieves gained entrance to our home by kicking through the front entrance door. The police confirmed that no crow bars or other devices were used to open the door. Was a bit surprised that the deadbolt we purchased from Consumer's Choice would give way so easily and the door be so badly damaged from a kick - not sure what to make of that.
