a desaster both work and price wise

I had this company to my home May 18 2019 to clean my eaves. The young chap that came stayed all but 15 minutes and produced a half a bag of leaves. yesterday I had another company at my home that charged 113. 00 for both the garage and bungalow. and left 5 bags of leaves. The young chap that came said he had allergies . Is that why he spent so little time here? In addition he said that he used a cloth , a new invention ? to clean the eaves. It was their technique. I got taken for 216.00 for eaves that were not properly cleaned . I had to have a reclean of at least one side of the home. I can't believe that they have such a high rate on home stars.

Approximate cost of services:
$216.96

Company Response

I must say that I am shocked by this review as it does not take into account certain elements that would have a HUGE impact on the facts and it also omits other details that paint a completely different picture. Firstly, it seems this review is primarily being based on price and number of bags of debris. I too would not be happy if this was the sole criteria to base an opinion on.

Before responding to the issue of price and number of bags, we were called back to the owner's property because she was convinced that we did not clear a drain due to the fact that water was not coming out of the downpipe during a subsequent rain. We were also threatened that no payment for the service would be made because of how little time the job took, which, BTW, was much longer than 15 minutes as claimed, and because so little debris cleaned up. The owner was therefore convinced that we did an inferior job. Upon return and examination of what the owner claimed we missed, we found that the drain was completely clear as expected and that the eavestroughs were simply sloped away from the particular drain that no water was coming out of during light rains. The problem of a lack of water coming out of the pipe had absolutely nothing to do with an inferior cleaning job whatsoever. It was simply that the eavestroughs were not aligned properly. Additionally, although not mentioned by the owner, we also cleaned the separate garage for free and even did a downpipe repair, also for free.

Now, let's cover the issues for which a "0" star rating is being made. I can't comment on what other companies charge or how they would come to their pricing, but I do know that some companies run their businesses without having full liability insurance, WSIB coverage, etc. We, on the other hand, pay for those expensive premiums to protect homeowners from possible accidents. As for our prices, they are fully disclosed to the public and prices are agreed upon by the homeowner before moving forward with the actual service, which is exactly what happened here. So we provided the exact high quality service that all our customers experience and come to expect according to the agreed upon price.

One thing the owner is truthful about is that the service was done on May 18, some 6 months ago. She claims that our, "15 minute", cleaning produced a 1/2 bag of leaves versus 5 bags by a recent company. Without getting into bag sizes or time labour, May 18th was a month before the Spring debris starts to fall from the trees. The most recent cleaning was apparently done just the other day. We too would have taken much more time and produced many more bags of debris today than a cleaning done in May considering that not only would there be all the recent Fall leaves, but also the Spring debris, such as flowers, buds, and seeds from the trees, still to fall after our Spring visit. In other words, there would be many more bags of debris for a November cleaning no matter what company provided the service, including more time to complete the work.

Lastly, wiping the side walls down with a cloth will certainly end up with a nice clean inside surface as opposed to any other method used. Most people would be thrilled if such additional detail to the service was provided.

In conclusion, was our price higher than the other company? Apparently so. Was there less bags of debris in May than what the other company had after their recent cleaning? Of course! To subsequently post a review 6 months later based on how long a job took in the Spring and number of bags, simply does not make sense, and to also include a comment complaining about a cost that was agreed upon up front is simply wrong on all fronts.

I guess being given such a damming review highlights the legitimacy of all the overwhelming and consistent 10 star ratings we’ve received over the past number of years from people who felt others should know about the outstanding quality of our work and the honest and ethical way in which Toronto Clear View Window Cleaning has been doing business over the past 30 years. Not only has Homestars recognized our oustanding reputation and Awarded us for it as a "Best Of" winner, many other respected organization have done so as well. We trust that the truth of what happened at this cleaning job rings through loud and clear. 😉
