Bi-weekly Cleaning

I hired Maid Right Calgary to clean my house based on these reviews, and the cleaning was mediocre at best. Dusting was terrible, streak marks, no replacement of garbage bags, etc. The worst thing, however, was the way I was treated when the cleaners damaged our home. First the owner made light of it, and then he blamed anything and everyone else. Beware of this company, especially if you can’t afford to pay for any damage that may occur.

Dries didn't bother to come to my house to take a look at the damage himself. The nickel taps were brand new and had just been installed. Anything sprayed on nickel and not wiped off can damage them. On the day in question, I had gone out but came back unexpectedly right away. I was surprised that the cleaners had finished because they were not close to being done when I left. It was an unusually beautiful day so I didn't blame them for rushing through and finishing early.

Just to be clear this happened when I used Maid Right in Calgary, Dries Brand owner.

Company Response

We always try our very best to satisfy our customer needs and to deliver the cleaning results our customers expect, so receiving this feedback is quite disheartening, especially if it does not describe the complete picture. For the sake of absolute clarity therefore, we want to add to this feedback by referring to your nickel tap fixtures, which you felt were damaged by Maid Right. We do a walk-through of our customer homes before we start our cleaning services to write specific notes down to provide guidance for our cleaning teams. And in this case our estimator noted “hardwater spots” on several of the bathroom fixtures, which were written down in your estimate. After one of your service appointments you reported to us that our cleaning products tarnished some of your bathroom fixtures, but on the other hand not some of the other fixtures though. You mentioned that you contacted the fixture supplier who predictably asserted there was nothing wrong with their products, and that it was the cleaning product used on the taps that caused the tarnishing, like all suppliers do as a default. And based on this you wanted Maid Right to replace the bathroom fixtures. We have cleaned hundreds of houses in Calgary and thousands of nickel and chrome tap fixtures, using the very same cleaning techniques and products we used in your home, without any detrimental effects. We even returned to your home as a consequence and cleaned those tap fixtures while you were observing the work to demonstrate to you that the cleaning products are not to blame. Additionally, we contacted high-end suppliers of nickel tapware to enquire about this phenomenon in an effort to get an understanding of what could have happened and what to do in future. The suppliers told us they get a mixed bag of customer feedback on nickel faucets, with some people reporting mottling/ tarnishing of their new polished nickel fixtures, while other don’t. They said some faucet finishes are coated by the manufacturer, and some manufacturers have better coatings and warranties than others, meaning better protection against hardwater and oxidation. Faucets that are not coated tend to tarnish in time or with exposure to harsh chemicals more quickly, which their customers would say requires an extraordinary amount of upkeep and is frustrating. They said they hear that even fingerprint oils cause tarnishing in some instances, presumably on the not-so-well-protected nickel fixtures. Cleaning them they recommend avoiding cleaning products containing ammonia or other harsh chemicals. We do not use ammonia-based or harsh-chemical cleaning products because of risk of bleaching/ staining. Our cleaning products definitely do not stain or etch. While we clean all surfaces in a residential home, that is all we’re able to do, clean, we cannot restore pre-existing or severe conditions unfortunately.
