UPDATE Jul 13/16:

Still no word or contact.

UPDATE Jul 4/16:

I contracted Shawn to do some more work for my parent's home and business that he bid on. This was already 1.5 months ago. He has delayed several times, each time a no-show. He is no longer answering my calls. He returned one call last week saying he was on his way with his crew and would arrive within an hour - and another week later I have not seen or heard from him. The home requiring work is a care home for adults with developmental disabilities.

Red flags:
*Indicators of low cash flow exist, like cashing cheques at a Money Mart rather than a bank. *leaving equipment on site as "collateral" overnight after receiving advances, however, will pick up the equipment the next day. *asked for replacement of a stopped cheque (due to a no show) to avoid overdraft - however, the original was cashed at money mart and therefore he was able to double dip. The over payments, he convinced me to put forward into a deposit for more work which he has not delivered.
*BBB alert for the company name - he claims it's a different company but a google search reveals the same address is attached to his name. *Several times that I chose to overlook, he promised things to my face in order to secure advances or appease my timeline concerns: "the paint/parts have already been ordered, we'll be there ____day for sure, I broke my back/machine, It's out for repair, etc..."

I thought I would give him a chance as his completed work was actually very good. In my line of work it's first nature to see the best in people and give them opportunities to deliver their best - but shortcomings business management, reliability, and customer follow-up now outweigh the pros that I once saw.

This is a real shame, and I'm a fool for being so naive.

Still, that part of me that tries to see the best in people has hope that perhaps a particular set of conditions have lead to this delay that he can overcome, and that there's that small possibility that Shawn will live up to the contract he's made with us.

In total, the home is $1000 out for uninitiated and incomplete work.

Previous Review:

Shawn was contracted to do roof and gutter cleaning for two properties. At each site, he performed a thorough inspection and was able to identify and photograph all items of concern and brought them to my attention. All identified repairs were credible, and he even found an old failed repair from a previous year by a different person and took appropriate action to help me rectify it the correct way. He also found problems with a structure at my parents' place that I had already had concerns about. His findings verified my suspicions and now I can plan accordingly.

Shawn has a good eye for detail and is very knowledgeable in his field. I appreciate that he recommends solutions that satisfy more than just minimum requirement.

Cons:
I do have a few reservations, however, as there are certain expectations I have for most people I contract for work that this company is missing:

-There is a zero web presence or BBB entry for this company.
-No company voicemail, hard to reach via phone. Texting seems to get a reply, however.
-No Email address

Pros:

-Despite the above, Shawn shows up, and does very good work. He puts a lot of time into thinking what is required and how to get it done properly.
-He has WCB coverage that is active (as of this posting)\
-He ensured that my neighbors knew he was working on the home, and that he would (and did) clean up any thrown moss that landed on their homes or property.

I like Shawn and his work, but there are some communication areas that he needs to address as a business operator that would push my confidence level much higher in contracting him.

Approximate cost of services:
$3,500.00
