I believe in using small local businesses such as Vaillancourt Plumbing.
After reviewing their books at the end of the month, Vaillancourt Plumbing believed that they had overcharged me. I received a voice mail with an apology, but I was unable to return the phone call. The next day, somebody from the company was knocking on my door with a cash refund.
This would not happen with a large franchise plumbing company. This is a nice example of why it is good to hire our neighbours :)

I forgot to cancel my appointment, and the plumber arrived 3.5 hours early. It was my fault for forgetting to cancel, so I was perfectly willing to pay the "service call fee" of $35. This is fair given that someone had driven to my house.

However, after getting off the phone with his office, the technician told me that he had to charge me $127 + tax!!!! I did not think this was reasonable at all. They reduced the charge to $81 + tax.

I would like future customers to be aware that the "service call fee" is not really $35. These words mean nothing. You will be charged $127 for a technician to knock on your door. Even if no work is done at all (no assessment, no quote, nothing).

I paid the fee, and I regret ever getting involved with this company. I would not trust them to do work on my house because I do not trust their business ethics.
