Roofing

I had a poor experience with Roofmasters. I found that most of the team were inattentive and difficult to motivate. I finally recieved some reasonable customer service when I became fed up and asked to speak with the owner.
The workmanship on shingles and gables seems very good. The workmanship on flashings around the chimney and Hydro service pole is barely better than the average homeowner could do themselves.
I am sorry that I wasted my time speaking with the foreman, and before him the salesman, as I did not feel that they were very committed to ensuring that the job was done well and in a reasonable amount of time.
I would recommend them, with the caveat that as the homeowner, you watch the work being done very carefully, and insist on speaking to the owner the instant you become uncomfortable with what you see.

Company Response

Hi Peter, thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'm sorry you had to wait a while for the foreman to come back to finish up the flashing on the hydro pole. I wish it was brought to my attention sooner. We appreciate your response and will look to keep a close eye on this particular crew in the future. All the best and we appreciate your business. Roofing

I have had a very poor experience with this company, and I would not recommend them. The workmanship has been good in some areas and very poor in others. The flashing around the chimney was not well installed, it was only attached at the bottom with roofing screws, no channel was cut in the top to fit the top of the flashing and I had to speak to the owner of the company before the foreman would return to caulk the top of the flashing. I am guessing that the foreman was upset about this because despite the flashing being white and the chimney brick being light grey, he caulked it with black caulking, in what looks like one sloppy band where the top of the flashing meets the brick. In a quality job, a professional roofer would have used an angle grinder to cut a channel into the chimney bricks to hold the top of the flashing, then would have used an appropriate colored caulking to seal the inside of the flashing just below the top and then another bead on the outside where the flashing meets the chimney. The shingles look good, and appear to have been well installed, as were the roof vents. The roof vents however, I did have to fight for because according to the foreman, the number of vents and their placement is not based on mathematics, it is based on common sense. It was his "common sense" opinion that we did not have to vent the entire roof (there are two seperate roof cavities in our house that are separated by an insulated wall) we only needed to vent the area two feet from the peak. One of the roofs ends approximately 8 feet from the peak. Finally, despite constant promises that they will come and finish the job, they still have not done so. Our house was built in the late 50's, so has a hydro service pole that travels through the roof into the garage where the service panel is. The roofers removed the flashing on this pole to install the shingles and have not been back, despite repeated requests to complete this area. I even sent the owner, Kershan, pictures of the bare roof deck that is exposed to the elements in this area and still no response. The only good part of this job will be when its done, and its begining to look like if I don't want it to rain on my head while I sleep, I will have to finish the job myself. All you folks who gave Roofmasters a great rating, thank your lucky stars, my experience with these guys was horrible.
