garage door installation

I was initially upset after my dealings with Neal, as my invoice was higher than quoted. There was extra work that needed to be completed, but after speaking with Neal on the phone I was under the impression that I wouldn't be paying for it. When I received my invoice I was very upset as there was extra labor on there. I let Neal know of my frustrations, but still paid the bill. After writing a negative review for Neal on this site he contacted me in hopes to improve my experience. I did have to wait a little while and remind Neal of his offer to come out, but he did end up coming out a few days ago and fully explained all of the extra work he had to do for my garage. I also believe he only charged me for an hour or two of extra labor when it took an extra four to do the work, so I appreciate that now. My experience with Neal began as a negative one but he worked to make it a positive one. I think he was just going through a busy, tough time with his company and I was really frustrated with contractors, so we just clashed. I'm not pretty happy with Neal (now) and would likely recommend him as he seems to actually care about his company and the work he does.

garage door installation

My low rating does not come from the physical work Neal did. I'd like to make that clear as the job seemed to be done quite well. My low review comes from the service after the door was installed. Neal was very courteous and quick when providing me with a quote, so I booked him. There were some hiccups and rescheduling getting an appointment, which is fine. Neal called me from the job site when he started the job and said there was a problem with the door frame (I believe) and asked if he could use wood from my garage shelving to correct the problem. I advised him that he could and that was the end of the conversation. When I got home I noticed that my garage door wouldn't open from my home. When I emailed Neal he said he could come out but he would charge. I get that the opener was not one he supplied, but in my opinion good customer service would be to call me to troubleshoot or come back...He did offer to troubleshoot over the phone but only after we fought. It just didn't sit well with me being told right off the bat that he'd be charging when I had a problem the very same day he came out. I called the manufacturer and had that worked out. I then asked Neal when I'd receive my invoice and he told me he needs to work out the extra billing. I obviously got upset as I wasn't aware there would be any extra cost as all Neal told me was that he needed to use wood from my garage for the work. Long story short, we fought on the phone. He told me he wouldn't charge for the extra labor after becoming increasingly frustrated (just as I was). I emailed Neal and said we were both obvioisly upset on the phone and if he still wanted to try and turn this around he was more than welcome to call me. He never called me. I received my invoice today (over a month later) and was billed for extra labor not originally quoted. I emailed him back to remind him of this and he acknowledged it, but I didn't receive a revised invoice. So in the end I'm paying for the extra labor I was told I wouldn't be paying for. I'm not disappointed with the installation at all as I'm happy to have a working garage door, I'm just so disappointed with the service after the quote. I really hope this is a one off situation for Neal, because he seemed like a great guy when I got the initial quote. I won't be using his services in the future, though.
