Kitchen Renovation

I hired Mike to undertake a small kitchen renovation in my older residential home a few years ago now. Mike is a well-rounded tradesperson and did several different jobs for us at the time, but I realized afterwards that I would have rather had a more meticulous contractor that paid more attention to details. Although he was very friendly and had several good ideas for how to make updates to our kitchen, much of the workmanship in the end lacked the fine finishes I was hoping for. In the end, we spent a lot of money on a job that at times was less than satisfactory. Complaining after the fact wouldn't have mattered, as some mistakes were ones that could not be fixed retroactively. Tiles mudded onto our wall were embedded unevenly (the surface is not flat), were not level (irony not intended!), and a few were left cracked as he did not have the proper tools to cut them carefully. The tiles were not fully cleaned and to this day we cannot remove the excessive mudding compound. Installing a simple light above our kitchen sink was done improperly: he drilled large holes to guide the plug through our heritage cabinets when he could have temporarily removed the plug at the end of the wire and drilled much smaller holes. When drilling holes to guide the wires he occasionally hit a few hidden nails (embedded in the wood) and had to re-drill additional holes in new places. So, the inside of our cabinets have multiple unsightly drill marks. Fortunately, we do not see these very often. Anyways, this may all seem like complaining but it is not intended as such. I am now in the market for new renovations and will be considering a different company.

Company Response

We would appreciate if the person providing this review could call our office directly as there is no name or contact info provided on this review for us to make contact with you. As well we would like to confirm you are a client of ours and not a generic review.
Communication is vital to the full satisfaction of each and every client. Had we known you were unhappy, we could have had the opportunity to fix or at the very least discuss these concerns before accepting payment and leaving the project. It is our goal to treat every home as if it were our own and not to leave a job half finished or not done right. To only hear three years later that a job was not satisfactory really didn't give us the opportunity to make the job right before leaving. We are saddened that your job is not what you expected and would have loved to have had the opportunity to finish the job to your expectations. Please do not feel worried to contact us,...we will be pleased to discuss this with you further.
Mike.

Kitchen Renovation

I hired Mike to undertake a kitchen renovation in my older residential home a few years ago now. Although he was very friendly and had several good ideas for how to make updates to our kitchen, much of the workmanship in the end was of very poor quality and I was left very disappointed. I am reminded each day of this poor workmanship. I consider Mike to be a good general handyman but his attention to the fine details (the ones that matter, usually!) were lacking. In the end, we spent a lot of money on a job that was less than satisfactory. Complaining after the fact wouldn't have mattered, as his mistakes were ones that could not be fixed retroactively. Tiles mudded onto our wall were embedded unevenly (the surface is not flat), were not level (irony not intended!), and a few were left cracked as he did not have the proper tools to cut them carefully. Anyways, this may all seem like complaining but it is not intended as such. I am now in the market for new renovations and will not be using Mike again.
