When we moved to our new place we needed a new pair of washer/dryer on the 2nd floor. Upon extensive research, we set our eyes on front-loaders since they are better for the environment. Instead, Trail Appliances sales recommended a top-loader for us because he expressed his concerns with excessive vibration noise due to high-spin cycles with these front-loaders. It was the best advice we got. We now listen to our neighbor’s horrid stories about their front-loaders shaking up their houses, while we haven’t had any trouble with our top-loader. The downside of Trail Appliances is that the delivery guys happen to be the installers as well. This is a problem since they have 10 hours worth of delivery to do a day; where do they find time to install the washer/dryer properly?

Over years we have been shopping at Rona for our home improvements needs. One time, we were looking for a piece of rubber mat to be placed under our washer/dryer set to reduce the machine vibration. The staff took the time to explain to us what options were available for our application. To our surprise, he also suggested that we try corrugated box first (a zero-cost solution), and if that didn’t work, we could then try something else. We really appreciated the staff’s honesty and his time to help us, and this is why we keep going back to Rona for their products and services. One the hand, Rona does charge a premium on their products. For example, recently we purchased a carbon monoxide detector from Rona for 31 dollars after 10% discount, only to find the same detector for 26 dollars at another place. Also, just the other day, we noticed that Rona increased their fireplace price by 10 dollars, which is a surprise to us since the Canadian dollar is so strong. We think Rona can do better by lowering their product price and maybe doing away with their long TV commercials which are cheesy at times.
