Rockstella gave us an amazing price for our 2 HUGE countertops (over 57 square feet in total); one was against a wall and the other a peninsula. This included cutting a hole for the sink and faucets. They spent time helping us select the best colours for our kitchen and suggesting different brands to fit within our budget, and when the counters arrived they were beautiful. Within a week of them being installed we dropped a very heavy drill on the counter that chipped the sink edge, and Rockstella not only returned to repair it (virtually seamless!), but they didn't charge us for the repair. Such excellent customer service, and a great product.

We had some boxed-in ductwork that was running through the middle of our living room, and wanted it re-routed so that it would be out of the way. We saw GEP Mechanical's van on the highway one day, took down their number and got a quote. They did fine work at a reasonable price.

We needed a drywall ceiling installed on uneven joists, and large portions of 3 walls repaired. After having several contractors look at the job and give us outrageous quote, and even tell us that one wanna CAN'T be leveled, Dan the Drywall guy was one of the few who said he could do it, and for a very reasonable price. We feel his quote was reasonable, and he was very personable and professional. He showed up when he said he would, and was very understanding and accommodating to fix something that we'd forgotten to mention (he adjusted his price to incorporate this extra work as we expected, but the price was more than fair). His taper, Ed, even came in on Good Friday to finish the job, which was a pleasant surprise. The only thing we were unhappy with is that we were told all construction waste would be removed from the house, but there was a large bag of garbage left behind, as well as the taper did not use a dropcloth when he was mudding and left hardened mud all over our brand new tile floor. Drywall dust was not swept or vacuumed up either, so we had to spend the entirety of Saturday scraping, sweeping, and mopping the floor repeatedly. We didn't expect anyone to clean the drywall dust out of our whole house for us, of course, but I think it's pretty standard to use a dropcloth, plus one of the other reviews said they'd left the place "cleaner than when they started" so we weren't expecting such a mess. This one small step would have saved us hours of cleaning. Other than that one small thing--which in fairness I don't think was Dan's fault but his taper's--we were extremely happy with Dan's work, the ceiling and walls look smooth and even, and I can't believe he was able to transition the kitchen ceiling to the living room as cleanly as he did. And the back wall that was left by another contractor with several inches of bulge in the middle that we were told couldn't be fixed and we wouldn't be able to get granite countertops? GONE. I really am thrilled with the work, and would happily hire again and recommend. Thanks Dan the Drywall Guy! EDIT: Dan, you did tell us in person that you weren't responsible for "dust protection" and gestured to our electronics, so we assumed you meant to cover them and you weren't responsible if anything malfunctioned because of dust. We didn't realize this meant no dust cleanup at all. Regarding the trash, ultimately we wouldn't have minded taking out a bag of trash, except that you had set an expectation that you would remove the trash. That, combined with what we thought at the time was an unreasonable amount of mess, meant we felt it was worth mentioning. However we will happily chalk all of this up to simple miscommunication, because you are right that the price you gave us was excellent and we were thrilled with the work. Thank you for clarifying, and I'm gladly changing my rating from a 9 to a 10. I maintain that we would not hesitate to hire you in the future.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Use a dropcloth when mudding, remove all waste, vacuum or sweep drywall dust when finished, or--if not part of their service to do so--inform us of that fact up front.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Ask the taper/mudder to use a dropcloth.

Thank You Yvonne, I'm very pleased that I could do this project even if some other contractors said it could not be done, I loved the challenge and at a reasonable price as you mentioned on your review. As far as the dust goes I explained in my e-mail on March 24th that I was not responsible for dust protection, when I met with Jeremy the first time and he explained he done most of the work himself and wanted to keep the cost down that he would take care of dust protection/floor protection. I never use a dropcloth, that is the painters, it is a safety issue for the taper working off of stilts, I have never seen a taper use a dropcloth in my 28yrs. experience. If you did not realize I did not charge you to straighten up the back wall for that large ceramic backsplash, that was wrongly framed where the door used to be. I did not take the trash out because it was trash from where I done your wall and did not think you would mind taking 1 bag of trash out since you were not charged for the work, and what about all the stainless steel applicances and the hood that I had to move out of the way before I could begin work, just so they would not get damaged. I was more concerned about that. That is the homeowner's responsibility, not mine. And as far as everything being cleaner after the job was done on a previous review he paid the extra money to not have to touch anything, you wanted a price break, and was reflected in the price I charged you, most homeowner's do not mind doing some of the clean up to get a better price. The miscommunication is between you and Jeremy, not me, if you would go over our e-mails you will see what I am talking about. The extra $100.00 was for a pot light that was in the wrong location and we had to cut out the new drywall and retape it. I will try to make sure the homeowner's understand everything before I start, I thought it was clear with you. Always check your e-mails from me, as that is our contract. Thanks, Dan

Kasa Bella did a great job on our kitchen, and quoted us a great price. They showed up on the day they said they would, and got the job finished within the specified time frame. Rodrigo even helped us solve a problem with transitioning from hardwood to tile around the stairs which we were widening, and left us some extra Ditra underlay and grout so that we could finish tiling after the stairs were completed (he was concerned that widening the stairs would break the tile, so we were happy to finish that part ourselves later). I'm giving a 4/5 for satisfaction, as the price we paid was slightly higher than quoted because we were slightly outside of his service area, which I feel could have been mentioned on the phone when we spoke. Another tile company who returned my call told me that because we were outside of his service area he would have to charge an extra $200+ for travel, and that we may want to locate someone else, so we contacted Kasa Bella. Rodrigo quoted us a reasonable amount for the labour and materials, but then on the day he came to the house for the assessment (after we'd already agreed to award him the job), he told us at THAT point that he'd have to charge a little extra (approx. $200) because we were outside his normal service area. We are experiencing serious renovation fatigue as we have been doing a lot of work ourselves, so that this point we sucked it up in order to not delay our kitchen renovation further. Rodrigo was professional and friendly, and they did an excellent job, however I feel he could have told me about the extra cost for being outside the service area when we first spoke on the phone so that we could a) find someone else closer, or b) have at least have been given the opportunity to discuss the extra cost privately, and be prepared for it. I would still recommend, as they were easy to deal with and did a great job.

GasGuys.ca was extremely friendly and professional, and accommodated our full-time work schedule by starting at 5:30pm. They stayed until the job was complete, and made sure to walk us through how to use our new stove. They were forthright about all costs beforehand (our installation was more expensive because we have a 48" range) and they were really knowledgeable. My rating of 4/5 on satisfaction is because while they were drilling through our tile in order to run the gas line, they realized they couldn't get through to the other side (hitting brick or a joist or something) and had to drill a second hole through our brand new tile floor, which of course we did not appreciate. They explained that they weren't able to get precise measurements due to the house being askew, were quite apologetic about the hole, and even went out right away to buy grout of a similar colour and patched it up. So we do appreciate that, and since the grout patch is hidden underneath the range, I would give a 4.5/5 if I could, but I still feel extra care could have been taken (measure twice cut once) to only drill one hole into our newly-laid tile. Despite this small thing, I would absolutely hire these guys again, as we still need to run the gas line out to our BBQ at some point. We have dealt with A LOT of various types of tradespeople over the years, and most of them aren't as friendly, professional and honest as GasGuys.ca

Hey Yvonne, thanks for the great review. I will admit, getting through to your basement proved to be more challenging than most jobs. I prefer to put the gas line as far to the back to the wall as possible to minimize the gap behind the range. In your situation, this brought us into the brick wall in your basement. When opening the 2nd hole, we were able to position it in a way that we can still get the range flush against the back wall by using a longer flexible connector. Your range is quite the piece of art though.
Overall i am glad you are satisfied with our work and will contact GasGuys.ca to run your BBQ line. Thanks again, George

Tom is a general contractor who--if you name it--really can build it! He renovated our house for sale, including installing cabinetry and plumbing in the kitchen, adding new walls, installing hardwood flooring, crown molding, installing an entirely new bathroom from scratch, building a front porch, repairing our existing deck, installing drywall, laying tile floors, and so much more. In fact, he did such a great job that we got over $100,000 over our asking price!

This is the second time I have used Zaid movers, and I would recommend them to anyone. Their rates are reasonable, the movers themselves are friendly and courteous, and work very hard. Nothing of ours got damaged, and they came prepared with extra boxes for loose items, which was an unexpected touch that I appreciated. We had a longer than expected day due to a mix-up with the keys at the new house, otherwise the rate would have been a little less, but they still put in a good 8-hour day.
