I had a kitchen reno originally planned for April 2020, but due to the pandemic the original contractor could not do it. We delayed the renovation, despite having bought most of the materials in Feb or Mar. During the summer we contacted Tisa renovations again and it was likely he could fit us in - however, with a family of 4 living at home reliant on the kitchen every day, we thought it best to delay until school started again. We agreed to have the job start in mid to late November. Jeff held to the original estimate of 2 weeks and started on time. He did the demolition work himself, and encouraged me to think about some improvements that I did not have in the original plan (including fixing the ceiling and replacing the lights). He left the choice up to me but given his experience and some research I agreed with his suggestions. In the end it took the 2 weeks plus one day, but that is because my order of backsplash came late. He came an extra day to finish putting it up for us and made sure I was completely satisfied with the job. He also helped me save money by pointing out that I did not need 6 sets of IKEA under cabinet lighting - that only 3 would do, given that they are so bright. He also added a light switch for said lights, which I love. My original stove was a 24" gas and I upgraded to a 30" induction, moving it to the other side of the kitchen and added a hood vent. He managed working with our double brick walls with ease. He discovered some surprises on the interior wall (which always happens in 100+ year old houses) and dealt with them. When I originally got quotes, he was the only contractor that noticed some questionable plumbing connected to the kitchen in the basement and said he would fix that too. During the job he found another plumbing mistake and fixed it. His many years of experience showed throughout the job and I'm so glad I went with his company instead of anyone else. I have a beautiful kitchen that I've been happily using for weeks. The work was almost completely him - he had one member of his team, Fernando, come in for one evening, but otherwise he did all the work himself. He was super respectful of our space and noise (as we were working from home), and always a pleasure to talk with (he even answered my construction-loving kid's many questions). I would highly recommend Jeff and Tisa to whoever needs a renovation job done! I've included some photos of before, during and after.

We've used Residential Painting several times over the years. The first time was when we moved into our home in 2012 and wanted to remove 40 year old wall paper, repair the cracks in the plaster and give it a fresh paint. We had a large hole in the stairwell wall and the work Felipe did was fantastic - he perfectly repaired it and smoothed it out. There were also hard to reach areas on the ceiling 2 stories high that he fixed. Years later I had some of his team come back for smaller jobs. In 2019, one team member did an external paint job - sanding off old peeling paint and redoing it with colors of my choice. In 2020, two team members (Brian and Cisco) came for internal plaster repair and painting - as well as patching a very big gouge in the front door by our dog (about 1 ft by 2 ft). The door was perfectly smoothed out and you could not tell it had been damaged to badly. The estimate was 4 days and was spot on. Every time, they answered all my questions, gave recommendations when I needed help narrowing down color choices, and provided input on all the styles of Benjamin Moore paints available. I'd recommend the team for their efficiency, experience and communication.

I spoke with Mark in 2017 about requirements and costs and color choices. He was super easy to work with and patient with me as I took my time to evaluate traditional roofing solutions and other metal roofing companies. My family looked at many houses across Toronto that had HyGrade roofs as well as competitor roofs (Each company gives out addresses of past jobs, with owner permission). After months I committed to HyGrade. There was some time delay in the work start due to staffing and weather - but it did not affect my needs. The work was done in Jun 2017. The roof is great - serves its purpose as a long lasting roof. There were just a few things to note... 1. Unfortunately, my neighbor told me one of the contractors backed into her car causing thousands of dollars in damages. He left his name (Peter) and number on her car, but never picked up the phone when she called him. I tried calling HyGrade on her behalf to find out if there was any other contact info. In the end, there was no way for us to get him to respond - so she had to cover the damages herself. 2. I had asked that one small portion of the house have the existing roofing stripped and that the material be left in the driveway for us to dispose of (instead of paying extra to have the company dispose of it). I had to pay extra to have this work done. However, I was not at home to see the work done and there was never any material left in my driveway. When I tried calling the contractor to confirm the work was done as required, he wouldn't pick up the phone (see #1 above). So either the work was NOT done or they did do the work plus went the extra step of disposing the asphalt sheets for me. 3. A corner piece blew off in a big rain/wind storm within a year. I called the company and they immediately came over and replaced it. What was strange was that there was only one nail in the piece - I would have expected more. I had also asked if this was normal but also received no response from the company. 10 stars for coming over as quickly as they did - they definitely stand by their warranty. Questionable stars for initial work done that even allowed for a piece to blow off - luckily it didn't hit anyone or anything. It landed in our driveway. 4. Lastly, as the old roof was left on for the majority of the roof, there are pieces of it visible sticking out from under the metal roof. It's possible that the old roof had excessive overhang - but it would have been nice if the metal had fully covered the red or they had somehow trimmed those bits back. In the end, I rarely look at the roof and so it's not that noticeable and I don't think affects the roof function. Overall, I highly value the metal roof - the strength and longevity. The neighbors have given me complements and I'm glad I didn't put more asphalt on. Over the last 2.5 years I've noticed the snowguards stop the snow from sliding off initially, and then it comes off in big chunks. The color is just as good and even as it was when it was installed. Overall I'm very satisfied with the product.

Hi Lin,

We strive to be open and upfront with our customers, and greatly appreciate this feedback. Thank you for the opportunity to address your concerns.

In regard to your neighbor’s vehicle, after checking through our notes, it doesn’t appear that Hy-Grade was notified of this situation. We do apologize you had issues reaching the installer directly, however we strongly encourage customers to call head office in these situations, including neighbors if issues arise during the installation.

After checking all the original paperwork, it was listed on your contract for us to strip the section you had listed, so we can assure you it would have been done at the time of install. Since it was listed clearly that you intended to dispose of the materials, the installer likely disposed of those materials as an additional courtesy to you while cleaning the job site.

In rare circumstances we do experience human error in our installation. When the piece of ridge cap came off of your roof, we investigated the cause and fixed the issue while we were there. During the installation a fastener was missed on one side of our ridge cap at the gable. As you are aware, we do a full quality control inspection, however sometimes we can miss a single fastener in these reviews. A roof the size of yours will on average have about 5600 fasteners! We’re glad that you were pleased with our response time, as we always try to ensure our customers receive attention as quickly as possible, especially in a situation like this. We are proud of our 50-year warranty and appreciate your feedback here.

Based on our Quality Control inspection photos, we’re not able to see the area you’ve mentioned where the asphalt is visible from beneath. If you have concerns about this area, please call our Service Department.

We hope we have addressed all of your concerns, and we appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your experience. We’re thrilled that overall, you’ve been very happy with your Hy-Grade experience and the last roof your home will ever need.

Andre and Cody came by to test 2 areas for asbestos - kitchen and basement. Andre was incredibly patient with me as I was super paranoid about all the what-ifs. He pointed out what was worth testing and what wasn't worth testing and really allayed my fears. I highly recommend the company and would use them again in a new place if needed. We went with the cheaper material testing but he also had the longer more expensive air testing available as a choice too. The results came in and Andre communicated the good news quickly.

He arrived on time, was easy to talk to, answered all my questions (mostly out of my curiosity), and was very quick (about an hour). We had a wasp nest at the top of our second story. I got the online estimate, and he responded within an hour, with details about cost based on height. I wasn't exactly sure how high up it was, and it wasn't a problem. They had weekend availability and came a few days later on a Saturday afternoon.
