1/10

We were new to basement renovations and they seemed credible when meeting, suggesting our small basement underpinning or benching and renovation could be done for around 100k. After spending 6k + for “design” we were then told the basement would cost somewhere between 150-200k. They insisted on multiple in person meetings which nothing was accomplished and wouldn’t do the project unless we were willing to spend $200k. We have since gone elsewhere (and every other company we talked to who does similar houses are shocked to hear the 200k amount). And the “design” they did provided no value and we would like our money back for that.

Approximate cost of services:
$6,000.00

Company Response

Hello, Christine. Further to your review, I would like to remind you of a few key points. Our Design direction was to provide designs for full basement renovation, inclusive of underpinning, waterproofing, parging, completion of HVAC mechanical relocation, main floor remodel and 2nd floor addition, etc. As part of our 2 tiered Design Process, Phase I was to provide preliminary design of full wish list, as well as provide our Ballpark Estimate for the full project. This very necessary process allows our clients to review and determine the immediate ‘must haves’ with the option(s) of phasing their project, and we ensured any work necessary in the basement, structurally supported the future main floor and 2nd floor plans. Probuilt provided 4 further ballparks with the many scenarios you requested, and it is our policy to discuss budgets in person and project phased options. We do not move into Phase 2, nor bill for this Phase (Permit Submission Drawings, and Final Estimate) unless Preliminary Phase 1 is approved. We hope you are enjoying your 2nd floor laundry that we accommodated for you, and pleased you were able to find a renovator that suited your basement renovation budget and wish you all the best.
