Steamatic Durham/GTA is located in Ajax, is a general contracting company, but specializes in water and fire damage recovery. They were recommended to us by our insurance company after we incurred a large amount of water damage stemming from a botched roof install. Steamatic was onsite within hours and very quickly set-up a series of industrial fans and dehumidifiers, as we had the roof repaired. What impressed us most was the thoroughness of their work (Mike the foreman returned daily to check the humidity levels as the house dried), and the range in the services they were able to (quickly) provide - flooring, installing new shelves, painting, drywall, plumbing, etc. And when they were not able to do the work themselves, they were able to recommend others who could (and bring them onsite). They really saved us and helped get our house back in order quickly. Their work was approved by our insurance company, and those two companies worked well together. Recommended. However, note that our insurance company suggested the cost of their work appeared higher than others.

We purchased a Kenmmore brand fridge and dishwasher from the Eaton Centre Sears location. Service was quick, seemingly knowledgeable, and we appreciated the salesperson's discussion on quality of brands (along with what company makes which brands). The price was right, somewhat negotiable, and brought with it quality appliances. Delivery was scheduled for a suitably workable time, was quick and painless, and left us happy. No problems with the appliances so far. We will return when it's time for a range hood.

We recently hired College Pro Painters to tackle painting some exterior trim and a shed. This kind of work was right up their alley - easy work, attention to detail not particularly required, no pressing time constraints. That said, we were pleasantly surprised with their professionalism, dedication to the work, and the quality of the work. Plus, the price was right - much more palatable than the other quotes we were provided. Recommended (for certain types of jobs).

This is a great neighbourhood paint shop that is used by painters city-wide for a reason. Why do we keep returning? The fantastic service aand the high quality paint. We buy all our household paint here - SICO brand. It covers well, and is durable. But the customer service is the topper - they keep a record of everything we purchase so if we ever need more they can look at our file by room, and let us know what we've previously used (by colour, finish, brand). Very nice, knowledgeable people. Free parking in the back. Recommended.

Following a terrible roof job completed by another Toronto roofing company, we were unsure where to turn for a thorough, honest roof re-evaluation and repair. Thankfully, Rapid Tac Roofing & Metal Works was recommended to us by a contractor. Abe from Rapid Tac arrived quickly, completed a full roof inspection that included photography and took the time to discuss what the problems were and what needed to be done to get the roof into proper condition. He then proceeded to complete a very thorough repair (working long hours in the process). High marks all around. Abe is a great guy, does great work, and we have no reservations recommending him.

In the fall of 2008, we entered into a contract with 310-ROOF to replace the roof at our Leslieville-area residence. Unfortunately, the completed work and subsequent repairs have been unsatisfactory as we have encountered numerous leaks costing us several thousands of dollars in damages. A brief history of this situation: Fall 2008: Roof replacement completed. Paul from 310-ROOF supervised the work. Winter 2008: We noticed water leaking into the house. Paul told us it was common ice damming and not an issue. He promised to visit our house to inspect and repair the leak but did not. Winter 2009: We awoke to water pouring in through a light fixture. As we investigated, we discovered a massive amount of water damage in multiple rooms, on both floors. As Paul was out of town, Mike (co-owner) from 310-ROOF visited the site, guaranteed quick action, promised several times 310-ROOF would cover our insurance deductible. 310-ROOF conducted emergency repairs. Spring 2009: The cost of repairing the damage was approximately $28,000, involving several new walls and new hardwood flooring throughout the house, all completed via our insurance company. The work took 6 months to complete. Fall 2009: Following repeated emails and calls to 310-ROOF to claim our promised payment and confirm they had completed all necessary final pre-winter roof inspection and repairs, we one day found a cheque for 50% of our insurance deductible in our mailbox. There was no communication from 310-ROOF about any inspection or repair. Spring 2010: We discovered a new leak in another part of the house and soon discovered a further large amount of water damage. So much water had entered the house due to the most recent round of poor roofing work that we had to tear out a large closet and cut several large holes in the wall. Paul promised quick action and 310-ROOF conducted emergency repairs. Due to our lack of confidence in 310-ROOF’s thoroughness, we initiated a full inspection by a roof repair specialist. The inspection revealed numerous deficiencies in 310-ROOF’s workmanship. Immediate repair was completed by the specialist. The cost of repairing the damage from the latest incident was approximately $4,000. From the above, and through inspection of our large collection of photographic evidence, it has become clear that the quality of 310-ROOF’s workmanship has been unacceptable from initial installation through several attempts at repair. We have tried to contact 310-ROOF repeatedly to discuss these issues further, but they do not reply to our calls or emails. Avoid.

Company Response

As of March 29, 2010, Paul no longer has any involvement with 310-ROOF Inc. For all potential customers who are looking to Homestars for guidance on choosing a professional roofer, 310-ROOF Inc. asks that you make your decision based on reviews which have no reference to Paul.
