I had shortlisted four contractors to replace my garage doors. These contractors provided comparable pricing and had very positive reviews, but Steve from Maple Leaf Garage Doors stood out on two aspects: He helped me choose the right product for my needs and tastes, and did go the extra-mile on service and quality. The other contractors came on site, took a look, and quoted on a specific type of door and color; when I asked for options, they confidently stated that what they proposed would be the best alternative for me. Steve, in contrast, patiently entertained my questions and showed me other available options, he did not dismiss my interest in a more expensive product, which in the end I chose, simply because it happened to be the brand and model that carried the color that best matched my house's façade. I did not mind paying a bit extra for it. This shows a very rare skill among contractors: the ability to interprete a client's needs and expectations, then patiently accommodate to them. Another detail caught my attention. When Steve came to give me a quote, I mentioned that I had been having problems with one of the doors because one of its cables kept coming off its pulley. Steve took a look and asked if I would allow him to make a couple of adjustments to it. I agreed and he then proceeded to adjust the door. This temporary adjustment allowed us to continue to use that door until the date our new doors were installed. He did not charge for this adjustment, and I would point out the fact that, at that very moment, I had not even awarded him the contract. This shows another rare trait: a willingness go the extra-mile. Last but not least. Steve committed to a 3-4 week install date. He called to book installation well within his committed timeline. During installation Steve and Austin were courteous and pleasant to deal with, and I could easily notice that Steve is a truly skilled installer, he is great with attention to detail, and takes appropriate time to do a quality job. I will briefly mention that I coordinated this home repair without my husband's involvement, and on those home renos where contractors do not see a male figure around, there can be attempts by some of these contractors to oversell, patronize, and/or disregard the female home-owner. Steve was completely the opposite to this. I was thrilled by his honest, respectful and considerate demeanor. Steve is definitely among the best contractors I have worked with, will absolutely recommend him to anyone, and will work with Maple Leaf Garage Doors on any future garage door needs.

We hired Paul to rebuild our chimney. Previous owners to the house had it partially rebuilt about 7 years ago and such job had crumbling mortar and spalling bricks soon thereafter. Paul found that the metal fireplace flue inside the chimney was 20 cm too short and thus was not connected to its cap. This construction mistake likely caused the rapid deterioration of the chimney materials. Paul proposed to shorten the new chimney by two rows of bricks so the flue would properly fit its cap. We got the impression all along that Paul was knowledgeable about what he was doing, and we felt confident in his judgement. One of our main concerns of having a contractor work on our chimney was the brand new cedar deck directly below. Paul did an excellent job at protecting surfaces of our deck from falling debris with well placed pieces of plywood. We were also concerned about dust debris filling the fine mesh over our also new eavestrough. Paul accommodated us by placing a tarp over it. In addition, Paul identified during the quoting process that a railing in our deck would needed to be removed to fit the scaffolding. This gave us plenty of notice for us to remove such railing prior to construction, as opposed to rush such task last minute. Last but not least, my wife was very impressed with Adrian, who assisted Paul with the chimney work and did himself the replacement of missing bricks in the back wall of our house. Adrian was particularly patient with my wife's questions and requests, to the point that she says that he is one of the most accommodating and good natured contractors she has ever dealt with. Thank you Adrian. We highly recommend Damski Masonry and we will definitely work again with them in our future projects.

We hired Canadecks last Fall to rebuild our raised deck and replace 60 feet of fence. The quality of their work is impeccable. We are very pleased with the final product, both the deck and the stretch of fence were nicely built. We had compiled other 4 quotes for these jobs, and although Canadecks was the second highest in pricing, we selected them as our contractor because: 1) We preferred dealing directly with the contractor throughout the entire process (as opposed to agreeing on a project with an appraiser, then having a completely different crew doing construction), 2) During our interview process, Tyler seemed knowledgeable and personable (the latter turned out to be a misjudgment later on), 3) Canadecks had all very positive reviews online. Tyler and Mike were punctual, kept the work area reasonably clean during construction, and showed great craftsmanship. Our only issue was the disgruntled demeanor Tyler had on the job, pretty much from the get-go. Because this was a particularly expensive and long-term renovation, we put special attention to its execution. We took time off from work to be on site, and spent a few hours every day directly on the work area, ensuring that no major construction decision would be made without us being involved. This seemed to particularly irritate Tyler, who became more and more aloof as days went by. In a particular incident, while we were asking Mike about the process of pouring the new footings, Tyler scolded at him right in front of us with a “We are not teachers, go back to work!”. Tyler visibly lost it, creating a very awkward moment for all of us. He never apologized for his outburst that day. On a positive note, a few weeks after the project had been completed, Tyler called to follow up on our satisfaction with the deck and fence. We mentioned that one stretch of the fence was too short and that we were thinking of replacing 10 of its boards with longer ones. He graciously agreed to come back on site and do the job for us. We did appreciate his commitment to the quality of his work. We have no complaints at all about our new deck and fence, however, it was such an uncomfortable experience working with Tyler, that we would not consider Canadecks for any future project. Nonetheless, we would not discourage other home owners, particularly those who are able and willing to have a completely “hands-off” approach to their project.

It’s unfortunate you felt this way throughout your project. We believe we are hired based on trust and experience to complete the job without constant interferences. This led to an injury early on in the project, and put constant stress towards the attention of our surroundings to ensure our customers would not be put in the situation of another accident. I'm glad we can both agree that overall the project was a success.

Dmitry and his crew were great to work with ! Dmitry was reliable, knowledgeable, accommodating, courteous, and reasonably priced. We had a 38 year old clay pipe running 45 feet through our front yard at a 10-12 ft depth, that needed replacement due to root intrusion and shifting. Another plumbing company had suggested digging a 50 ft trench to expose the full length of the pipe, telling us that the shifting prevented any other option. A full-trench digging had a significant risk of permanently damaging our mature trees in the yard. After a drain camera inspection, Dmitry was able to propose a trenchless option for us. This solution involved digging only two access shafts at each end of the section to be replaced, then inserting a device that bursts the old clay pipe in place and pulls a new PVC pipe into position. This approach was minimally invasive and preserved the integrity of our landscape. Once the new PVC pipe was connected and a new cleanout installed, Roman and Vlad backfilled the shafts, compacted the soil, relaid the original sod, and cleaned the work area to perfection. By the time they were done, you could barely notice that a job this scale was just finished. We definitely recommend Dmitry and his team to anyone needing a good contractor, and plan to work again with them on our future plumbing projects.

Hi William,
thank you for your review and your elaborate explanation of this job. I am sure other Homestars users in the same situation will appreciate reading what's involved.
This was a challenging job, to diagnose, choose the right solution that creates minimum damage, and to execute it correctly. Trenchless option is relatively new, so not everyone does it, or has enough experience doing it. Since it became available, we've performed quite a few trenchless pipe repairs.
The advantage to the homeowner is, as you said, that after using it, "one can barely notice that a job this scale was finished." Classic alternative - digging trenches- causes damage to the landscaping and, oftentimes,to the roots of the trees.
We wholeheartedly thank you for your recommendation and for giving us ten stars,
Happy to help you in the future,
thanks for choosing A To Z Plumbing & Drain
Dmitry.
