We saw a rat feeding at the base of our bird feeder and were mortified. My husband discovered that they were burrowing under our shed. We got quotes from 3 different companies to exterminate them. Ruhul from Pesterminate seemed to be the only one who could come the next day and help us. We had questions about the poison (would it hurt the other wildlife?) and he was very informative and knew his stuff. He answered all our questions (no, it won't!). About a week later we still saw activity and let him know. He came back and put more bait down immediately. That did the trick! Have not seen another in over 2 weeks and no activity around the shed. I would not hesitate to recommend Ruhul and his company to get rid of nasty pests. Very responsive and very professional.

Hi Linda,

I am so glad to hear that we were able to eradicate your rodent problem. Rats and other rodents have a nasty habit of making house where they don't belong, so it is crucial to draw them out and get rid of them. The bait boxes we use are very safe for everything other than their intended target. Please do not hesitate to call me if you ever have any more issues in the future !

We have called Rob on a number of occasions for everything from hedge trimming to planting to taking trees down. He always does a great job and cleans everything up after. His prices are also super reasonable. I have no hesitation in recommending this company.

We have used this company a few times so I can't remember exactly what we paid but I do know that their fees are always very reasonable. The first time we called Greg was when our furnace conked out while we were away. He came right away, showed me the problem and fixed it immediately. The second time was when we needed an air conditioner moved and lifted to a platform. Again, he showed up on time, completed the job quickly (including a new gas line) and the fee was very reasonable. We have received a quote from Greg to replace the air conditioner and furnace and when we are ready to move ahead, we will be calling him. I have no hesitation in recommending TwinTech!

The provided next day, on time service to clear a block in the kitchen. Rick was very professional and friendly and had it free-flowing in under 30 minutes. He also provided us with some great tips on how to maintain the pipes and they give you a bottle of BioChoiceES to help as well...enough for a year! You also get a 30 day guarantee. I would have no hesitation in recommending them. Hopefully, we don't have to call them again ;)

We contacted Logik to install more insulation in our attic after hearing their ad on the radio and checking their rating on Homestars. We were not disappointed. Everyone from Danielle in the office to Jason (who came out & gave us the price) to Mike & his partner who did the install was professional, friendly & courteous. They did a great cleanup afterward as well. There was one small glitch in that they forgot a couple of things (extra roof vent, baffles on ALL the rafters) but that was only due to a bit of a breakdown in communication. They came back the same day to make it right (Friday at 5pm!!). We can already feel the difference in the house. We would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Wow! I can't tell you how pleased we are (once again) with Todd & his crew & the love they have given our backyard. Last year it was the retaining wall & Muskoka stone steps down either side. This year, they created our very own "Secret Garden". See the photos attached but they don't do it justice as plants are still blooming & growing. Todd sat with us and heard our vision then took it to the next level. I never could have imagined how beautiful it could be in this once wasted space. We are over-the-moon pleased with the results & the customer service and can't wait to complete step 3 next year! Call us, Todd/Tammy!!

Let me start by saying that the deck these guys built is very sturdy. We have zero complaints about how solid it is. This was not the cheapest quote we received but they promised to work in tandem with a landscaper we hired to do extensive work. They took a ridiculous amount of time to complete each stage. It was very frustrating. Then we were presented with an additional invoice that included hourly rates for a bit of siliconing and hand digging that needed to be done. I was flabbergasted. It wasn't a lot of money but it was the principle. The quality of a couple of boards that were used were substandard. We were promised by Adam that he would oversee the quality from the beginning (was in our signed contract). We do understand that pressure treated wood will crack. But one of the main rails was severely gouged in a few places as were a few of the others and one of the other boards was completely cracked even before the final screw was put in. They were able to sand out some of the gouges to our satisfaction but the two boards were too badly damaged to be saved. Had we not pointed this out to Adam, they would have been fine to leave it this way but they did eventually replace them. Our building permit did not pass as a result of a minor design flaw with the stairs and we were told "for an extra fee" they could fix it for us. They were the ones that created the design. It is our contention that they are the experts and filed all papers with the town and they should be responsible for ensuring that it passed inspection. We decided we would fix it ourselves and have been in discussions with the town to ensure that it passes. Finally, there was no clean up from the post digging. Their excuse was that the landscapers would take care of it but that was very unfair because this was in areas that the landscaper was not even working. Post-winter, the ground is collapsing around the posts as the ground was not compacted. My summary is that I would not feel comfortable hiring Bildam again even though we still have fencing, gates and some basement renovations that we would like to have done. Like I said at the beginning, we are very satisfied with the sturdy construction of the deck but they need to take a very close look at their customer service practices and their labour crew.

Linda,

So sorry to see the low rating, but I'm very glad to hear you're happy with the structure and quality of the deck itself. It is important to me to know that the quality of our work is not in question as we work really hard to make sure we deliver a quality product, but I would like to address a few of your concerns.

I do recognize that a few boards were questionable, but as mentioned, we did replace those for you out of customer service because we had to return to the lumber store and purchase more materials as the material we had on site was what we got upon delivery. With regards to the additional costs, I did notify you guys before the work had started, and said it's not something we've discussed in the original contract as we weren't aware it had to be done until the old deck was removed. However, once we removed the old deck and discovered more work, I explained that we could repair things for a cost if you wanted things fixed properly, and I got back in writing that it was ok to complete for a cost... but when it was complete and I submitted the invoice, you were upset with the "principle" and said I should have offered it free of charge. It should also be mentioned that this charge still has not been paid.

As for the city requests, the inspector who came out openly expressed directly to you that it was a unique situation that even he had never come across before, and the solution to fix it was not something listed under "standard building codes". This was an unforeseen issue, just like if getting a kitchen renovated, and a problem arises behind the walls that's unforeseen, and the city inspector wants corrected... the contractor does not offer this service free of charge. Standard practice is to present options along with costs associated with the repair, and let the customer choose what option they want to do... but a cost is sill applied to do the work as it's not in the original contract.

Lastly, with regards to clean up... I would like to make note that the job site was extremely clean, but the clean up you're referring to is the soil that came out of the ground from the deck foundation. This is something we could have done, and I did explain when I was there that we can do this for a cost, but because landscaping was being completed immediately after we were there, and they already had the proper machines on site, it would be more cost effective to have them complete it (I thought they would have already included it in their costs knowing that a deck was getting built... and perhaps that was a poor assumption)... but again you wanted this service done from us free of charge, so having the landscapers do it wasn't an option (even though would have been less cost then us).

In summary, I wish we could have had another 10 our of 10 rating and a happy customer as I know we offer a great product, and it's unfortunate that a few minor things causes such a drastic decrease in ranking because we did provide the deck you requested and did it well. However, that is the great thing about homestars is that it allows people to speak freely, and exposes the "ins and outs" of the contracting industry... and it is your right to rank us as you wish, and post reviews as you wish (as long as it's not false information). Although it is our responsibility to respond, and I hope people recognize that even though the project took some extra time, guys were on site every day, and the quality was provided (quality can sometimes take longer to provide). I wish you the best with your future projects, and thank you for the review.

We needed extensive work on both sides of our house. A retaining wall, armour stone stairs on both sides and flagstone work on both sides as well as in the yard. Todd & his team at TWG were amazing. They didn't just install the stairs, they curved them to give them a sweeping style - something I wasn't expecting! There were a couple of things that I'm sure they didn't expect but went ahead anyway and didn't charge us extra! Despite some lousy weather, the job is almost complete and we couldn't be more pleased. We will definitely be connecting with them for some finishing touches in the yard next year and likely some indoor stone work on our fireplaces.

The project was completed on time and on budget. A few hiccups along the way but I suppose that is to be expected when you are dealing with a large scale renovation. All in all, we are delighted with our new kitchen. The staff is terrific. Very friendly and accessible at all times. I would recommend and/or hire them again without hesitation.

The crew were friendly but the follow-up service is horrible. Were told our plants were guaranteed for a year as well as the work. Instead of replacing a japanese maple that sustained winter damage, they pruned it so it was no longer the 6ft tree we were promised. Two of the other plants died and they only replaced one. One of the stones shifted and it was like pulling teeth to get them to come back and fix it. Also, they used old dirt to fill the gardens and lawn back in and garbage is still coming up through the soil. It looks better in our front yard than before but I would never use them again. I think we were overcharged.

Hi Linda, thank you for taking time to write this review and bringing these issues to our attention. At Birk’s Landscaping customer service is extremely important as referrals are a large part of our business. Due to the anonymity of this review, I am unable to actually have a look at the service sheet to find your exact concerns that we were trying to address. I am sorry that you had an issue with our service work, and hopefully I can shed some light on what happened in this situation. Yes, we do offer a one year warranty on our plants, and if they are deemed dead within this warranty period, they will be replaced. You mentioned in the review that the crews only trimmed off the dead branches from your Japanese Maple instead of replacing it. Our crew’s typical procedure is to examine the tree first to determine whether it is dead and needs replacing, or if the plant would recover with just some minor pruning. In this situation, it was clear that the plant would completely recover; therefor the crew trimmed the plant accordingly.

You also mentioned that the crew used “old dirt” to fill in the gardens. I want to assure you that our crews always use fresh soil, straight from one of our suppliers, for the gardens that we have done work in.

As I mentioned before we are sorry that you had such a bad experience. If there is anything we can do to help us regain your trust, please let us know by calling our office directly at 905-404-0602. I would be more than happy to discuss this matter further!

Hi Linday - Thanks for the positive feedback. We appreciate the effort to share your sentiments of our service with others on Homestars. We're extremely pleased that we were able to remove your skepticism of duct cleaning services; we understand the industry has a lot of negative connotations associated with it and we're doing our part to correct that!
