So my mother died 3 weeks ago. She was 98 and had a good life. We - her daughters, have had the task of cleaning out her apartment at the seniors residence. Everyone who was interested in taking anything had picked it up, but there were still a few items that no one in the immediate family wanted and I had till the 27th to empty the rooms or the remaining items, furniture and photos, would be put in the garbage. There were cousins and others who lived out of town and wanted an opportunity for mementos from mom. In a panic I called Cargo Cabbie to move these few items. It is so close to the end of the month that they were busy and had no one till next week. Too late. I explained my situation to Joanna. Well, after telling me they were booked up, Joanna contacted me almost immediately and said that after talking with her boss about the urgency of our situation, she was able to find some of the movers who were in the neighbourhood of my mom's residence - and they agreed to come and pick up these pieces and take them to my cousin. They only needed to pick up the furniture as I was going to pick up the boxes of photos tomorrow. Well, the nicest guys in the whole world came and took the furniture and, when I wasn't there, someone at the residence told them to take the boxes also. When I contacted Joanna about the mistake with the boxes she was able to have Kat, a woman in her office, bring me the boxes directly! And at no extra cost. They were great! Treated me like a valued customer - were caring and responsible, efficient and went over and above what they needed to do. I am more than pleased. I will now call them with all my moving needs.

I purchased a house in Hamilton about 9 months ago and I rent it out. My tenant contacted me in the spring about leaks. There was a leak in the upstairs bathroom ceiling that was small though part of the problem of an aging roof. But the main issue was with the basement which had flooded and was quite wet. I asked a friend of mine who lived in Hamilton and Jochen at Inspection Haus was highly recommended. He was able to check out the roof and make some suggestions about how to prevent leakage issues until I was ready to replace the roof. But in the basement he was amazing. He took out all the flooring and part of the wall on one side. He was able to locate 4 leaks and repaired the cement in the foundation as well as putting in weeping tile. I also had him vent the dryer. His recommendations for how to proceed wth the foundation repair were sensible and reasonably priced. He did the work in the amount of time he projected and he was true to his estimate. He took pictures of everything and kept me updated all the way through the work. This was so helpful as I don't live in Hamilton and he saved me making trips out there. I highly recommend him for any repair work. He is smart and knowledgeable and efficient and skilled.

I called this company to rent a van and as it was a beautiful Saturday they were pretty much out of vehicles but were able to rent me a big truck - same day with no reservation. I had never driven a truck. I am 65 and 5' tall it was quite intimidating and I had highway driving - but they were so cheerful and encouraging they made it seem like no big deal. The truck was clean and very well maintained. It was altogether a great experience.

I have had moisture in the corner of the basement washroom since I purchased my house just over two years ago. I didn't know if it was the foundation or some other leak but I did worry about mold and dampness. I called Fairney and Sons. I had a flyer that said they would do a free estimate and Bill came over and had a look. He said that he could waterproof the back wall - that was all that might be necessary but first, since I was worried about mold, he suggested opening up the wall in the bathroom and removing some drywall and using a mold spray. Also looking around for leaks. Mike turned up the next morning, sent by Bill. As it turned out, after cutting out quite a bit of drywall, it was not the foundation - and there was no mold. But the stack was cracked quite severely. Instead of a large expense of waterproofing the foundation they saved me a lot of money by just finding the real problem and only fixing what needed to be fixed. As a woman in my 60's, knowing very little about home maintenance they could probably have told me anything and charged what they liked - but they were direct, honest, prompt - did a great job and very affordable. Fixing the stack, removing quite a length of pipe and replacing it with a 2 1/2 ft length of PVC piping and some sort of rubber under it cost $575 and in January - after we know that it isn't going to leak anymore Mike will replace the drywall with new drywall - and the baseboard and repaint - for $250. I am thrilled!

I contacted Sam at H & M. He came out, gave me an estimate to install my carpet in the basement and up the stairs. The price was affordable and he did a great job. He was prompt and friendly, picked up the carpet for me, and even though it took a little longer than he thought, due to irregularities in the piece of carpet I had provided him to install, he and his helper installed it all including the stairs and didn't charge me more for the extra time to solve the problems. I would absolutely recommend H & M.

From my first contact with Frank, who clearly takes pride in his company, I was impressed with the friendliness and reassurance that my job was important, that I was respected as a customer and that I could count on this company to do the job right. The movers arrived on schedule and did an amazing job, even in a particularly difficult situation since the attic stairs from the third floor down to the second floor were only 20" wide and there was an abrupt right angle turn at a narrow hall and a corner to navigate at the bottom. Most of the furniture up there had been hoisted over the deck railing - these movers were actually able to maneuver everything down the stairs without a scratch - the bed frame and mattress, the armoire and computer desk - amazing! They worked until after midnight making sure that everything was moved into the room it was meant to be in. They were friendly and courteous. I would altogether recommend them to anyone.
