We got a lot of recommendations on where to begin, ALL of them self-serving, more business for themselves. Often we were directed to very limited supply of designs, e.g. builders or places no one wanted nor designs documented (Realtors). We spent a lot of time asking about pricing to create House Plans and wound up getting the best of all worlds, as much service as desired, experience & fees (even though we weren't sure about by-the-hour arrangement at first). We avoided copyrighted plans by beginning from scratch, saving time and most of all the headaches searching through odd designs for sale. From site selection through construction inspections and beyond, we felt like this Boy Scout was helping us across the street. Which site? What rooms? How to look like all these exterior snippets? Engineering direction? Bidding wars? Site inspections? Gratis support thereafter? Color printing of Bid/Construction Sets (aka blueprints)? All these were fulfilled in spades and at reasonable prices, even when compared to those of lesser experience/education/talents.
