Our kitchen was complete rubbish. The space was horribly laid out, no countertop space to speak of, and forget about entertaining in the kitchen! After spending 2 years in this kitchen, my wife and I were fed up. But we didn't want to just go to the big box stores and get a cookie cutter kitchen, we wanted something that reflected our tastes. We figured we wanted a sort of modern seaside cottage look, so to us that meant white bead board cabinets and glass mosaics. We looked around at other places but really fell in love with the white bead board cabinet doorstyle offered by Wood-Mode. The design process went quickly from there. We worked with Lee Anna to design a kitchen that was small, but felt big, and had the ability to entertain through a new breakfast bar opening connecting to our living room. The install went flawlessly and looks super sharp! Way better than I could have ever imagined. Now when we have people over we aren't completely embarrassed, but instead instantly want to show off the kitchen! It really has changed how we use our house, and we just love it! - Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
- Start early. The earlier you start planning the better. Go into stores already having picked out a few style types that you think fit you and your house. The designers will come up with a good way to express the style you've chosen without going overboard. The old adage still holds: you get what you paid for. Get something that you can afford, not just the cheapest thing you can find. You'll regret it when the cheap junk falls apart and you have to replace again.
