Called Action Furnace for an annual furnace inspection/clean. Technician arrived & said both heat exchangers were defective one had loose rivets and the other had a loose seal. He said there was a risk of a carbon monoxide leak & gave me 3 options, 1) do nothing, 2) replace heat exchanger ($3000) or 3) replace the furnace and offered to set up an appt for me to meet with a Comfort Advisor to discuss prices of a new furnace. I paid $140 for the inspection/clean & the invoice stated a full inspection had been completed, including the cleaning of the fire sensor. Heat exchanger defects were noted a fail at the rivets & there were some signs on the secondary heat exchanger that it was also starting to fail. There was no mention of a loose seal. I met with the Comfort Advisor & feeling stressed about potential health & safety risks &/or that the furnace could stop working, booked an installation for the very next day ($6200). Later I had second thoughts so cancelled the install and made arrangements for a second opinion. Imagine my surprise when the technician showed me that the furnace hadnt been cleaned at all, even the fire sensor! He confirmed the primary heat exchanger didnt have rivets, it had screws, so there could not be a fail at the rivets. Nothing was loose. As for the secondary heat exchanger, there was a loose seal on the panel, he repaired in 60 seconds by simply removing the screw, flattening out the seal, and putting the screw back on. There was no sign of anything starting to fail. The furnace is in top condition. I felt Id been completely taken advantage of by Action Furnace and given inaccurate information in the hopes Id purchase a new furnace. I was reimbursed $140, after 20 minutes talking to a Manager. Id have a hard time recommending Action Furnace to anyone looking for an honest and competent technician & find the wording on the website to be debatable Exceptionally Friendly, Well-Trained, & Highly-Skilled Technicians.
