6/10

If I was strictly reviewing the work, I would probably give a rating of at least 9/10. ~Kevin was awesome to deal with. ~He offered helpful advice and even did a couple of little extras to help me out (ex. drilled holes in my old wooden soffits for ventilation). ~They were able to come out within about 3 weeks after giving me the quote. ~They got the job done in a timely fashion. ~I was overall very pleased with the final results. The new soffits and eaves made my house look 100 times better! ~They hauled everything away and did a satisfactory job of cleaning up (though I will need to climb out on my porch roofs to sweep some minor debris). ~I had to call them after the work was done to fix a problem (that turned out to not even really be their fault), and they were out within an hour or so to do it (for no charge, thanks to their guarantee). Unfortunately, they slipped on the rating scale when it came time to pay the bill. My quote and final total were completely messed up. I didn't check the math on the quote so I didn't realize that he had missed including over $300 worth of the materials in his total. I know it is partially my mistake for not double checking the adding, but I just looked at his total and trusted it was correct. When it came time for the final bill, he had forgotten to include a couple of things in his quote, and he also changed the price on a couple items (ex. the quote said elbows were $3 each, but he charged me $5 each). With tax, his quote total was almost $550 off. I realize a quote can change when the actual materials used are calculated, but it shouldn't change as much as it did due to bad math and changing the prices. My final disappointment was when I found out I could only pay with cash or cheque, but this one was my fault for not checking in advance. I figured that since all of the competitors I checked first took credit cards, they would too. I ended up losing the interest free period I would have had putting it on my credit card first, and also lost the cash back I would have received. So, in addition to the extra I had to pay for the job itself, I lost another $100 on extra interest and no cash back. While I realize that isn't their responsibility, value and final cost/savings do factor into which company to go with. Deciding to go with KJ Seamless instead of the other company I got a lower quote from (who also took credit cards) ended up costing me in the neighbourhood of $900 more. In summary, yes I would likely recommend them for their work alone (so far so good!), but not if cost and being able to budget for the project are an important factor in your decision.
