1/10

At the onset the sales office staff was approachable and attentive... However once I signed on the dotted line we have had many issues. I like the layout of the home... the bedrooms the bathrooms the kitchen looks nice... good use of space..but there are lots of esthetic issues and some potential for some issues to cost us a lot in the long run. Our home is under a Tarion warranty, so luckily some things have been addressed. Overall quality is lacking, I like the layout. We had issues with the stairs, finishes, etc. To be expected with a new home... but there is a lot... like they just slapped a lot of stuff together. There has been water damage during finishing... that's been an issue... as a matter of fact I am waiting for them to come fix it as I write this..... they are 2 hours late for an appt we made over a month ago. We had to move everything out of our main floor and stayed home to let them in... moved my kids to my mom's because with the dust etc and chemicals it was recommended we stay elsewhere. Thanks... There is mold growing in the laundry room probably because of a leak or bad seal from the shower that is attached by a wall... Most of the windows leak somewhat when it rains... the cheap grade means hinges haven't worked properly, the screen routinely falls out... etc... last year during horrible rain while we were trying to close the window the mechanism failed and we couldn't close it for 10 minutes and not without the effort of tools... or my husband knowing what he was doing. I am usually not a complainer... but I strongly caction anyone from using this builder, as the overall quality and end product is lacking... It is also worth mentioning that the builder having personal ties with the landscape company (who also did snow removal and maintenance) left the home owners with a hefty bill that cost us money for shoddy workmanship... or nonexistent work. The carpenter that came in to address some of our issues also confronted me quite abruptly with my 5 year old standing there and while I was quite pregnant.... You want more info... come walk around our neighborhood and talk to the neighbors... they will tell you. Punctuality: 2/5 Quailty: 1.5/5 Price: 2/5 Timeliness 2/5 Overall experience.... 2/5... and I'm being generous. Once we fix everything it will be fine... I know this, but when you put money into something you should expect good quality...or at least attention to detail and fixing... I am going to have to pay out of pocket to get stuff fixed in the long run.... but it will get fixed.

Company Response

Dear Homeowner,
Thank you for taking the time to submit your review and share your experience with our company. In reading what you've written however we notice quite a few areas for which the record should be set straight.
- In our review of our interactions with you we have not noted a single complaint. There were some service calls which you signed to be complete and that's it. If your experience is as bad as you say we think it would have been appropriate to notify our head office and allow us the opportunity to address your concerns.
-Tarion acts as a 3rd party to ensure that codes and regulations are being met. We are a member in great standing with Tarion which attests to our desire to meet and exceed homeowner expectations.
-You requested that the stairs not be sealed or varnished so that you could stain them on your own at a later date. Therefore it is unfair to turn around and blame the builder for stair related issues when you were warned that as a result of your request the wood of your stairs would be left unprotected and therefore would be susceptible to future issues.
-We inspected the claim of mold in your laundry room and we concluded and agreed that this was not as a result of anything to do with the shower but was a maintenance issue and not one for which we were at fault. You were using your laundry closet with the door closed without running the exhaust fan that was installed in the room. Inevitably this would lead to an issue.
-The claim of windows leaking was not as a result of water penetration but rather condensation that occurred in the winter time as a result of a lack of humidity control.
- The windows, doors and screens in your home were manufactured by the biggest window and door manufacturer in North America. These products are used by thousands of builders and yes from time to time some items come out defective but surely this cannot be blamed on the builder. However if ever this happens we do take full responsibility as we should and make a service request to have the issue resolved immediately.
- It is rather troubling to us that you would spread such slanderous things without basis or fact. You mention that we had some ties with a maintenance company that left your condo corp with a 'hefty bill'. This is absolutely not true in any way, shape or form. If you are able to publicly make this claim you should have some proof of this. If you can prove this claim we will write you a cheque for $5,000.00 with no questions asked. If you cannot prove what you are saying, you shouldn't be making these slanderous public statements.
- It is worth mentioning that in your entire neighbourhood you are the only person who is making these claims of sub par service from our company.
Even with all these negative things that you've said about our company we still invite you to contact us directly to see if there is anything that can be done to better your experience with us.
For anyone who may be reading this we maintain that we are a reputable builder who cares about the experience that all of our homeowners have. We hope by that this is evidenced by the very fact that we have taken the time to address many of the frivolous claims made by this particular homeowner. We would urge anyone who is interested or potentially interested in living in any of our new developments to stop by one of our past developments and inquire of the homeowners what their experience with Oxnard has been. We are certain that the answers would be overwhelmingly positive.
Thank You.

I thought the service was pretty prompt and I was readily attended to. I did shop around and the ComfortShoppe matched the competition's price. Also I had a humidifier installed. I felt that the guys who came to install the unit communicated well and we're through. They left no mess. Overall I am pleased with the service.
