He took my cash deposit and disappeared! I responded to Ray's ad (his real name is Peter) on Kijiji for a garage renovation (painting/drywall). He appeared professional in the beginning (website shows business is BBB accredited - not true) and requested a deposit to hold a spot for him to begin work the following Monday. When Monday came, no one showed up and I couldn't reach Ray. He finally returned my call a couple of days later saying he was just busy, but that was the last time I heard from him. Later research showed that he actually lives in Manitoba and comes to Calgary to 'visit his niece' and take cash deposits. I called the police but was told 'buyer beware' and apparently this happens a lot in Calgary/High River and they can't investigate each case. Lesson learned for me - hoping this doesn't happen to anyone else.
