We found Derwood through friends in Austin who had used him. We met with him and he told us he had been in the business for decades. Based on recommendations, seeing some of his work and our meetings with him, we felt comfortable choosing him to do our new floors in a remodel of a ranch style house. This was the biggest mistake in our remodel. His crew was gruff, sloppy and left cigarette butts strewn over our entire landscape. His finished product left us with circular sand marks, numerous poly spills, bubbles and debris everywhere in the finish. Later we had severe cupping and gaps. Further, the fumes were absolutely atrocious for weeks and weeks. He had assured us he would allow the wood to acclimate properly. He did not. Derwood offered to remedy the problems, which I knew we shouldn’t accept, but my husband wanted to give him the opportunity. So we rented a POD, moved all of our furniture out and completely covered all of our new custom kitchen cabinetry, etc. We only adamantly asked him to cover and tape off our new baseboards. The results were disastrous: cloudy finish marks, a contrasting fill color between boards, baseboards covered with brown muck, gaps, thresholds pieced together with the roughest finish I’ve ever seen, etc. We had to pay to have all of the baseboards sanded and repainted. Since then, many of the boards on our floor have shrunk dramatically, exposing huge gaps where you can see the subfloor. Other boards have been crushed and still many others cupped. The surface is entirely uneven. We will have to pay someone else thousands to attempt to fix as best as possible Derwood’s barbaric work. Hopefully, this review will help spare even one person from Derwood Schulle. My pictures could really tell you all you need to know.
