This past spring we hired Sunbury Cedar to install our new solid structure (no lattice), clear grain cedar fence. The representative we dealt with was Pat Wright. After interviewing 3 companies we came to the conclusion that Sunbury would provide us with the end product that we were looking for. They build the fence on site versus installing pre-built panels. There are slight gradations on our property and this was definitely the way to go! The team that Sunbury sent to build our fence were professional, courteous and most importantly the foreman of the job knew what very experienced and knew what he was doing. This was not an inexpensive fence. The product we chose was top of the line cedar and was well worth the added expense as it is stunning to look at and structurally very sound. When Sunbury quoted us they stressed that the quote was the final price, even had they had unexpected incidental costs. One of the other companies quoted us and advised that any difference increase in cost (ie incorrect measurement – on their part) would be our responsibility to pay. As it turns out, that company under-measured by 45 linear feet. Had we gone with that company our end price would have been significantly higher than expected. Sunbury’s measurement was bang on correct (I know this as we re-measured after their quote to ensure we were getting the correct information). We definitely got what we paid for from this company. They were very accurate on their delivery times of the wood (a couple of days ahead of the fence work as advised) and completed the job exactly on time. I would not hesitate to recommend Sunbury Cedar for their product and for their workmanship. I would also recommend dealing with Pat, who listed very carefully to what our requirements and expectations were and tailored the fence to our specifications. This was very much appreciated.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Was happy with the service, feel no improvements are required.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Know exactly what you are looking for in fence construction. Don't be afraid to ask questions and look at the product prior to engaging a fence builder, that way there are no surprises. Make sure the price quoted is the final price you will be paying, that it includes any unforeseen cost that may come up.

In May we hired Ryan Hayden (Hayden Painting Solutions) to paint the exterior of our home, which hadn’t been painted for approx. 10 years. We could not be happier with the results. Ryan came highly recommended by several friends and it is clear to see why he has such a fine reputation. (We did obtain other quotes and Ryan's was very comparable, if not lower, than the others.) He is a hands-on owner who works alongside his crew to ensure that their workmanship is impeccable. Our home was prepped and then painted top to bottom in two days – sprayed and brushed, 2 coats. This included main paint, trim and all doors and garage doors. The job site was spotless and there was not a drop of overspray or paint on our brand-new cedar roof or fence. Ryan and his crew painted our home as if it was their own, taking care to ensure our roof was walked on with care (so as not to damage the shakes), attending to details such as painting the sides of the trim boards, removing and replacing the downpipes, taping off the house so that the trim colour remained only on the trim boards, etc… The results are a solidly painted house that we anticipate will remain looking freshly painted for many years to come. I can’t count how many people have rung our doorbell to find out who our painter was, as they are that impressed with what our 28 year old home looks like. I will be hiring Ryan to paint the interior of our home when the time comes and for any other painting requirements that come up. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, respectable, detailed, professional painter who clearly takes pride in his work, I highly recommend this company.

We purchased a wooden sliding door to replace our existing contractor grade, drafty slider in our family room. This door was made to specification, arrived on time and is fabulously draft proof. We opted to stain and install the door ourselves although the company does offer this service. The only flaw there is in the door is that the extra security lock at the bottom of the door does not line up, therefore we are unable to use it. Despite that, we are extremely happy with this purchase. The door slides smoothly and looks fantastic! All of the staff who we have encountered at the Langley location are knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with. We will definitely consider purchasing from this company again should we replace other windows/doors in our home.

In the spring of 2013 we purchased all new stainless steel kitchen appliances: a stove, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. When initially going into the store to look at the appliances the salesperson kept inflating the price and then saying he could give us a better deal. The day I went in to order them he would not give me individual prices, only the total package, stating that he wouldn't do that as I could go elsewhere to try and get a better deal. He even had the audacity to remove his paperwork when he was leaving his desk for a moment, citing that he didn't trust that I wouldn't copy it. I should have walked away at that point. When the fridge arrived the handle of the freezer was damaged. The delivery person pointed it out to me and wrote on my receipt that it was damaged prior to delivery. He advised that he had already called the problem in and a new handle should be delivered to us in a week. Two weeks later we had heard nothing. I called the store 3 times and left messages for the salesperson who sold us the appliances. I heard nothing back until the third time at which the sales person advised there had been nothing ordered and that there was nothing on the receipt regarding mention of the damaged. After much discussion he advised that the handle would be ordered. It never was. I ended up having to call the acting manager - time and time again I had to call. Eventually, and several frustrating calls later the handle was replaced (which took all of 5 minutes). I have never had an apology for the lack of service. I am still waiting for the itemized price I paid for part of my order, which was promised to me by the acting manager when I complained that the sales person refused to give me the breakdown of what I had purchased. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I will definitely not be buying appliances from this company in the future.

We are very pleased with NuFloors in Langely where we purchased carpets for our upstairs bedrooms during a renovation in the fall of 2013. Our sales person was very knowledgeable about the product which she sells. She was able to access our needs and steer us in the direction to a carpet that we are very happy with. She presented many different products until we hit upon the right one for our renovation. The fellow who came to measure our rooms was able to figure the measurements to such accuracy that we only have one seam (in a total of three rooms) that is behind a bed. The installers were courteous and very careful when working around our railings and mouldings. Our carpet arrived exactly on time as planned and our installers arrived promptly as arranged. They installed the carpet flawlessly without a scratch to our walls or woodwork. Our salesperson called a few days after instillation to enquire as to how the instillation went and if we had any questions or concerns. Nufloors has a huge selection of carpeting and other flooring to choose from and a pleasant, friendly, staff to deal with. I would definitely purchase from this company again.

DC roofing installed our new cedar roof in spring of 2013. This owner operated company are professional, honest, and easy to work with. The quality of cedar shakes they used is outstanding and the execution of the installation was perfect. The two person roofing team, who installed our roof, were pleasant, professional guys who took pride in the job they did. They were in daily contact with us to ensure that we were pleased with the progress and were able to answer any questions that came up. The roofers showed up and left at the same time each day and were very considerate of our neighbours when parking their vehicles, talking quietly while on the roof, etc. The installation of our roof is perfect with ridge caps and shakes lines that are absolutely dead straight (which was very important to us). The site was cleaned up daily just before the roofers left and the owner came by most days to ensure all was going well with the job. Every person we dealt with within this company was easy to reach, approachable and truly seemed to care about the job that was being done. We were given a completion timeline of up to a week to finish the job (weather could have changed this) and they were finished in 5 days. They started the job the day they had advised us that they would and after completion the owner came by to ensure that all was completed correctly and spoke with us to ensure that we were happy with the work done and wanted to know if we had any question or concerns (which we did not). A great deal of care was taken when they dropped off/picked up the dumpster onto our aggregate driveway as well as when they delivered and stored the cedar shakes and flashing before use. I felt that they treated our home with the care that they would have had it been there own. DC Roofing's pricing was very competitive (we interviewed several companies and obtained quotes prior to choosing this company). We were given references to contact and prior job sites to drive by to check out the quality of their work; which we did. Almost a year later we still have people stopping at our house to find out who installed our roof. I am happy to highly recommend this company and should we have future roofing requirements we will not hesitate to hire them again.

Do your research and ask questions! Make sure that the company you hire is in good standing with WCB and will have all the proper papers in order prior to starting the job. Check the companies standing with the BBB and ensure that they have resolved any complaints in a proper manner. This is a big job that you will be spending a lot of money on, you want to hire a company that not only stands behind its product but will hopefully still be around in a few years time should there be an issue. The cheapest quote is not necessarily the right one!
