Once again had a nuisance job - and in an older home where nothing goes as expected! Alex and his team did a great job, thinking outside the box to come up with a creative solution that works really well and meets code. They are nice to deal with and do a quality job.
I had three quotes – two from other listed companies and one from Insta-insulation. All three men got exactly the same info. In fact, they all ended up standing at the same point in the kitchen as I discussed an ice damming issue near the kitchen window. Robert immediately pointed at the pot light and said “that is your problem , I hate it when they put pot lights in attic spaces, they never insulate them properly”. A week later, we were having the roof re-shingled and I had them cut the roof boards right above that spot. The pot light box to keep the insulation away from the heat was 1 inch from the roof board and there was zero insulation above it. As well there was no vapour barrier at all – so we were really heating the attic through our pot lights. So he was totally right. Before the insulation was blown in, we removed 8 pot lights and fully sealed the rest of them with a fireproof insulation and vapour barrier boxes to seal them completely. The difference in our house has been unbelievably good – one room that we took 6 pot lights out of has actually been warm this winter! Our energy costs are down and zero ice damming! The Insta-Insulation guys were great – they came in as scheduled, did the job and left on time, cleaned up after themselves, and did a thorough job. And of the three quotes – they were not the lowest, but certainly did the most complete and thorough job. I would strongly recommend them.
New Furnace, Airconditioner, move water heater, ductwork
Not an easy job so got several quotes, chose another contractor and then threw them out the morning they arrived without any duct material. Had some of highly recommended firms make proposals that did not meet building codes - now that is scary. Bruce Pour came in, was extremely knowledgeable, made excellent recommendations, pre-ordered the ducting materials (no straight runs), and had team here on schedule. Installers were great, organized, careful and thorough. Best of all - heat in house is way better balanced, ducts sized properly and furnace room reorganized to give us more space. We have a quiet Trane unit. And pricing was excellent - Direct Energy quoted $11,500 without the air conditioner for the same furnace!

Have used this Molly Maid group for over 6 years on a regular biweekly basis. Nice to know that they will be there - not dependent on one person so if one is on holiday, another person will be there. Any issues (very few in five years) are resolved immediately and their office support is excellent. Also a fair degree of flexibility if I have had to reschedule. Had used a few other services without success - they did not do the same quality of cleaning and were always changing the cleaning team.
Replacing roof damaged by hail. Did quality work, and full team had whole roof done in one day - last guys took 2.5 days. And the place was left pretty clean - which meant did not have to spend a day picking up nails on the ground!
Installing Electrical boxes in attic/ceiling and replacing wiring in garage.
Happy to recommend Alex and his staff. They had a messy job to do - to cut and install two new fixtures (replacing pot lights in attic with drop fixtures because of ice damming problems). It meant crawling around in a low attic and getting lights in right spots! All done and done well. Completely cleaned up afterwards. Then off to garage - where found dangerous wiring and replaced it and brought wiring up to code. So quite happy - they were on time, on budget, and did a good job.
Happy to recommend this company. They showed up as scheduled, with enough people to do work properly, did quality work, and cleaned up afterwards. Touch-ups done quickly and completely. Painters knew their stuff. Owner, Enzo, is great to deal with.
I have used this franchise of Molly Maid for over two years now after some real disasters! Honest and reliable. I usually get the same two women - and if one is away, there is always one familiar face to guide the new person. The house is left clean, and no hiding thing with air fresheners or lemon furniture polish (all tricks used by others!)etc. They come in, do the job and are gone in two hours! The office people are supportive and quick to respond to any queries. I have occasionally had to change days - and they even get the same team back here!
We were delighted with their honesty and service. They arrived thinking after being told by us that we needed a new opener. After a couple of minutes, he figured out that the existing one just needed adjusting - and that is what they did. At our request, they ended up servicing fully both of our garage door openers, installing a new key pads and two door switches and fixing our remotes - all for less than half the price of the new one installed. Then he tells me the work is guaranteed for a year! Now that is incredible service and honesty!
Hardwood flooring - finished on site.
This was one really messy job - re-doing a disastrous hardwood job done by another contractor. It meant - ripping out the badly done floor, re-laying and finishing the hardwood, plus a lot of patch work on parquet flooring also messed up by the other trade. It was a nightmare job - tight space, fully finished walls, house already post-construction cleaned. And to top things off - the previous guy lied about the finish which led to challenges getting the finish coats to match. They showed up when they promised, worked efficiently, and kept the mess to an unbelievable minimum. And they did not leave until we got the right finish - which ended up being custom mixed. But to end it off - we have a beautiful, non-squeaky floor at last! I am happy to recommend them to others.
Rip up basement floor, replace drain under house
Guess I shouldn't complain about the price - $250 to look at the problem via camera then $2300 to rip up floor and fix problem - as I now have drain that works! They identified the problem one day, and had a team in the next to fix the problem. They had to rip open a two meter area of floor, replace the pipe, replace a floor drain with three connections into it, and hand dig under a harwood finished section of the floor so it could be saved! There was a small issue re the levelling of the concrete around the drain - a tough floor to do anyway - but they came back right away and fixed it. The guys did a great job of keeping the mess under control - tough when you are cutting open concrete and digging in the house.
Thanks so much for taking the time to post your note. It's unfortunate you felt the work was expensive, but it's a common response we all have when any of us get any kind of service done (ever had a simple brake job done? The price can be shocking). Fortunately, most of us don't ever have to deal with these kinds of situations more than once, if at all.
The point being that a job as involved as digging and repairing a drain is all new to most consumers, and so are the costs associated with the work, which can help explain the perception of expense. It's probably the first time you've ever had to pay for this kind of work.

Have used Adanac a few times for different projects. Had some challenges getting quote done in a reasonable time but once done, things moved. Great quality work, and installation process was a breeze. Came on time and left place clean. Price a bit higher but worth it.
We have dealt with Scollard several times over the years and purchased a number of carpets. Best thing - they will bring them to your home so you can see whether or not they are right for the space. We have looked other places and keep going back - they offer a quality product for a fair price. They also have antique persians that are wonderful and very hard to find. The owners are experts on carpets and it really shows.
We have used Al's company five times since we have been in our home (10 years) and referred the company to many others. They have always been fast, clean up their worksite, charge a reasonable price, and do a great job. The first tree we had to take down was was a 25 meter silver maple - in a stone patio, two meters from the house and about three meters from an inground pool. They did an amazing job taking it down and then cleaning everything up.
We have never had such a proper cleaning job. In our ten years in the house, we have had the ducts done three times previously (construction) and this was our fourth - construction again! He found construction materials in our vents that had been there from before we moved in! He also showed us that half our house's vents had never been cleaned - they did not cut in the access to the main vent going the other way. The work was done in October - our house is cleaner than ever before and with the vents clear - the house is heating much better. And we have really noticed the difference on the other side of the house. We just wish we had dealt with this company the first time.
We had construction dust everywhere and had to get all the drapes cleaned - including silk lined drapes and dark cotton drapes. They came in gave a really fair quote, took the drapes down and had them back and re-hung as promised. They also did a bedskirt that had to be hand pressed.
