What we thought would be a fairly simple job turned out to have more to it, and Paul was very professional and helpful when providing us with estimates. He suggested several options to decrease costs, was very upfront about all potential costs and kept things in perspective. He gave us time to think about it, and when we decided to forego the renovations, he cancelled the contract without any problem. Throughout all of it we never felt like we would be 'taken for a ride'. We will likely go back to Mainland Ventures when the times comes to add to our house.

Honesty and integrity are traits that I not only live my life by but also operate my business with. I have heard horror stories of clients losing deposits and other nefarious tactics if, and when, a contract needs to be terminated. I would not be able to sleep at night if I bullied people in such a way. Rather the contract between us should merely function to clearly state the terms, scope, and responsibility of each party. In your case, after a closer look at the intended project, the scope increased so much that it wasn't a project you wanted to proceed with. No problem. Contract cancelled and deposit returned. Standing by my work, sub-trades and their quality and allowing people to change their mind is in my opinion the ONLY way to run a successful, long-term, highly reputable business. This is precisely why so many of our clients are repeat clients that refer us to their friends and families and become life long friends. Please feel free to contact us again should you require any future home improvement services. I would be happy to provide you an estimate.

Two years ago, we hired Joseph to paint our kitchen/dining nook. He did such a great job we didn’t hesitate to call him back to do our guest bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom walls in our 1927 house were starting to crumble in places. The ceiling was uneven. The bathroom had a useless niche that I wanted dry-walled over. Joseph showed up on time, gave us quote and the work started as scheduled. The crumbling walls were patched up, the ceiling was skim-coated to even it out, the baseboards, windows, doors and trim were all prepped and painted. Once the work was finished, Joseph came by to check the paint job and touched up a couple of spots. He offered to install our new light fixture. In doing so, he discovered the wiring wasn’t up to code. He took the time to fix it and proceeded with the installation. He also re-caulked the bathroom sink. Joseph is reliable, honest and friendly. He kept in touch throughout to inform us of the progress. The work was completed on time and on budget. I would not hesitate to recommend Joseph to family and friends.

Update: While painting the dining nook, Mike noticed a soft spot on the ceiling (possibly due to a leak). Joseph and his team identified a caulking/flashing issue on the roof above. He's sending someone over to assess the work to be done. We bought our 1927 house just over ten years ago and have been living with the previous owners paint choices since then. Two years ago, we discovered a venting problem with the fireplace which ended up causing superficial damage mostly to the kitchen ceiling, but the walls weren't in great shape either. I came across Joseph’s ad online and was quite impressed with customers reviews. I sent him an email and within minutes got a call back. We set up an appointment for later in the week. Joseph showed up on time and we did a walk through of the areas (kitchen, dining nook, hallway) that I wanted to have painted. He explained the work that would be involved and we discussed the type and quality of paint to be used. A detailed contract was prepared and Joseph came by so we could go over it together. As I work in the legal milieu, I reviewed the contract with a fine tooth comb to ensure it reflected what had been discussed during the initial inspection. Joseph was very patient with my requests for clarification and for minor changes to the wording of the contract. The Prorise team has more than met my expectations. The work was carried out during the day (we both work full time) and although unforeseen issues added a couple of days to the initial work schedule, Joseph kept me informed on their progress. The team did their best to keep the worksite clean and organized. Mike, the plasterer/drywaller, was very personable and hardworking. He did an awesome job prepping the walls and ceilings. I am a very picky person, so I truly appreciated his attention to detail. An unexpected bonus was that he installed our new ceiling light fixture! The painter was equally attentive to details and the quality of his work has made my kitchen look brand new! I would most definitely recommend Prorise Painting. They’re reliable, honest and eager to please. The guest room, living room and bathroom are next on the list, so they’ll be hearing from me again soon! Maria P

One of our three metal awnings came down during the windstorm that knocked down trees in Stanley Park. I called a few places but Overhead Maintenance was the only company that would re-attach an existing awning. The other companies would only put up awnings they sold, meaning I would have had to get all new awnings. Anyway, Overhead Maintenance came to look at the awning and the wall where it was to be re-attached and advised that the stucco had to be fixed before they could re-attach the awning. Unfortunately, they couldn't fix the stucco, but I found someone to do it and once that was taken care of, Overhead Maintenance came to re-attach the awning. Although the work had to be postponed a couple of times (one time because of rain; the other because of another job that ran late) it was finally done and I am very happy with the work.
